Australia<\/a> has been a regular entrant into the Eurovision song contest since Guy Sebastian flew the flag in 2015, and while this year\u2019s talent Delta Goodrem is proud to take the reins, she admitted her place in the forthcoming event came about largely an accident.<\/p>\n

Speaking with BBC\u2019s The One Show, Delta explained how the once-in-a-lifetime gig was manifested into existence before she had even agreed to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year I was in London doing shows in Hackney, and it was the first time that I kind of got to see Eurovision at the same time, because Australia\u2019s been a part of it the last 10 years, right?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the past 10-11 years it kept sort of circling me, saying, \u2018Would you do Eurovision?\u2019 I\u2019d always been on tours or on projects or shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this moment happened where someone said, \u2018Would you do it? And I said, \u2018Of course, I\u2019m always open-hearted to, you know, whatever the world brings you, good projects and excitement\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd basically I said that, \u2018yes\u2019. And then there was an article written saying, \u2018Delta to do Eurovision.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Immediately, the Born to Try<\/a> singer was inundated with requests from collaborators pleading to be involved.<\/p>\n

She said the weight of momentum quickly became too heavy to repress.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of a sudden, songwriters I knew were like, \u2018Hey, do you want to do Eurovision?\u2019 The Australians were like, \u2018Are you going to do Eurovision?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018I guess \u2014 yes \u2014 we\u2019re doing it now, let\u2019s go. I\u2019m in!\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Riding the wave of support from Aussie fans, the singer has no regrets over accepting the billing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really take it with my heart. It\u2019s been really beautiful to see the Aussies sort of go, \u2018We\u2019re going to Eurovision together!\u2019 So I feel like they\u2019re with me in my heart as I represent them,\u201d Delta said.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old was officially confirmed to be Australia\u2019s next representative at the contest on March 2, with the festival set to take place in May at Vienna\u2019s Wiener Stadthalle.<\/p>\n

Arguably the nation\u2019s most high-profile flag bearer, Delta will perform her powerful new single Eclipse to a global audience of more than 160 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Emerging as a household name at just 15 with her debut album Innocent Eyes, she has sold more than nine million albums worldwide, and claimed 12 ARIA awards.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Upon announcing Delta had been appointed for the contest\u2019s 2026 iteration, SBS Head of Entertainment Emily Griggs said \u201cthe moment has arrived\u201d for the star to finally add Eurovision to her list of accomplishments following years of speculation that her time would come.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything has aligned for Delta to represent Australia at Eurovision, and there\u2019s no better time than 2026 in the song contest\u2019s 70th year, back where Australia\u2019s participation began in 2015,\u201d Ms Clarke said.<\/p>\n
