The photographs are too graphic to publish.<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife Victoria rescuer Debbie O\u2019Grady, who also volunteers for Mosswood Wildlife, took a call from a woman who had seen the man dragging the koala behind his ute, and raced to the scene.<\/p>\n<p>When she got there, the koala was extensively injured, but still alive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the most horrific rescue that I\u2019ve been to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just dumbfounded by it. I just can\u2019t understand how anyone could do that to an animal, let alone a defenseless one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A volunteer veterinarian from the Mosswood Wildlife centre had to euthanise the animal.<\/p>\n<p>IFAW\u2019s Oceania head of programs, Josey Sharrad, said the incident was horrific and senseless, and the person responsible should have the book thrown at them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"There have been a string of animal cruelty cases reported in the area.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1053f91fa0b3e10d9c79ce313d9fb950cee080c9.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ldCIuB\"\/>There have been a string of animal cruelty cases reported in the area.Joe Armao<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is beyond belief that someone would do this to any animal, let alone an iconic koala,\u201d Sharrad said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKoalas should be treasured, not tortured.
