I feel like I\u2019ve lost all my muscle. I can really relate to someone who\u2019s a beginner, thinking I don\u2019t know what to do,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>It reminded her that one of the most challenging parts of fitness as a beginner is building consistency and just getting started.<\/p>\n<p>            What to read next<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you can break fitness down to say this 10-minute workout will count toward your health and that it\u2019s not about the number on the scale or your pant size, it\u2019s about your energy, it will help you have better sleep, it will improve your mood, I think that makes such a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here, Green shares a taste of her typical week in workouts, plus some advice on how targeting early wins can make regular exercise a habit that lasts.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-lacee-green-s-weekly-workout-routine\"\/>Lacee Green\u2019s Weekly Workout Routine<\/p>\n<p id=\"64b34447-8269-4fa9-a283-a220a7179a88\">Green says she trains six days a week, Monday through Saturday, typically around 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Most workouts last around 45 minutes and she kicks each one off with a 10-minute incline treadmill walk or by marching on the spot to boost circulation.<\/p>\n<p>However, while she\u2019s rebuilding her fitness, she freely admits she\u2019s had to strip her workouts back to shorter, lighter sessions, and occasionally hit pause to catch her breath.<\/p>\n<p>Her overriding message: \u201cAs long as you press play again and keep going, that is where you\u2019re going to find something deep inside of you that builds that winning mindset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>Lower-body strength workout<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>Cardio and core workout<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>Upper-body strength workout<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>Cardio and core workout<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\u201cFriday is my go-get-it day,\u201d says Green\u2014this could combine a functional full-body workout, like an AMRAP, plus a longer steady-state cardio session on a StairMaster.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<br \/>Group fitness cardio or HIIT class, depending on how her body feels.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday<br \/>Rest day comprising a long walk with her golden retriever Payton, plus stretching and foam rolling.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-lacee-green-s-advice-for-building-a-workout-routine\"\/>Lacee Green\u2019s advice for building a workout routine<\/p>\n<p id=\"9329ed04-dd53-4770-b320-53b8b6bb4fdc\">Green firmly believes that you can get in the best shape of your life from your living room with just your bodyweight, or a set of dumbbells, and some positive intentions.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-set-your-intention\"\/>Set your intention <\/p>\n<p id=\"d423a11b-f881-45f9-aafa-2ec1a5cfe836\">Before embarking on any workout, Green recommends identifying your why. For this, she uses a system called SMARTS goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound and, because I always have to change everything, I added the S for Self Love,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk yourself, \u2018How is doing this workout going to lead to something better in your life?\u2019\u201d That could be more energy, better sleep or, for her lately, helping regain her fitness bit by bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you can exercise to focus on improving your health esteem\u2014a strong, healthy body, not just a smaller one\u2014it can make a real difference in how you push yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-set-small-goals\"\/>Set small goals<\/p>\n<p id=\"242bad95-3e9e-40df-bca2-63f184ae9ef7\">Green also recommends building some early wins into your workouts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, fitness is just an extreme metaphor for life,\u201d she explains. \u201cI would never give someone a 25lb dumbbell and say bang out 20 biceps curls.\u201d That would inevitably lead to failure and quitting before you&#8217;ve really started.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, start small, collect some early wins and build momentum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo build muscle and get better, you have to keep showing up and that means pushing ourselves a small amount at a time and proving to ourselves what we\u2019re capable of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earning those little, small wins makes such a difference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-find-the-joy-and-drop-the-judgment\"\/>Find the joy and drop the judgment <\/p>\n<p id=\"7787457d-afa9-4633-a872-c044d69a1547\">Another of Green\u2019s trademarks, she promotes finding enjoyment and adding more life to your years, rather than simply exercising to add more years to your life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number one thing that keeps people coming back to fitness is enjoyment,\u201d she says. \u201cI still think burpees are fun, but whenever you\u2019re about to exercise, think, can we make it fun?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applying this mindset to every workout, fitness class or activity will keep you coming back for more and pay dividends now and in your future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is the point of having a long life if when you get to your 70s and 80s, you can\u2019t move or do things independently?\u201d she asks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe point of exercise is to add more life to your years.
