it<\/p>\n<p>AAA<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Sandilands said he has \u201cmortgages to pay like everyone else\u201d as he emerged from Federal Court on Friday after his lawyers argued for a fast-track legal battle to get the controversial broadcaster back to his $100 million KIIS contract as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Sandilands, <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/business\/companies\/unconscionable-sandilands-takes-termination-fight-to-court-in-major-filing-20260323-p5rml1.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who is challenging KIIS-owner ARN<\/a> over its <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/business\/companies\/kyle-sandilands-says-contract-has-been-terminated-20260318-p5okhn.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">termination of his case.<\/p>\n<p>Sandilands said the past few weeks had been \u201ctraumatic\u201d and told reporters to \u201cwish me luck\u201d before he entered the court building in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>ARN <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/business\/companies\/kyle-sandilands-says-contract-has-been-terminated-20260318-p5okhn.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terminated Sandilands\u2019 $100 million deal<\/a> the instant a two-week deadline it had set for him to fix his \u201cserious misconduct\u201d against co-host Jackie \u201cO\u201d lawyers argued for an expedited hearing to try and get the star back on air as soon as possible, telling the court: \u201cThe battle lines have already been drawn\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sandilands\u2019 legal team, headed by Scott Robertson, SC, told the court that the case \u201cconcerns 20 minutes of conduct on one day\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy client\u2019s principal objective is to get back on air before his audience as soon as possible,\u201d Robertson told the court, adding that he is ready and capable of working this Monday.<\/p>\n<p>ARN\u2019s lawyer Tom Blackburn, SC, told the court that ARN does not accept the central premise that Sandilands\u2019 \u201cgoodwill and notoriety are wasting away every day he is not on air\u201d and contends that the prospect of him returning to air with KIIS \u201cis effectively nil\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn said Sandilands\u2019 claim was effectively for compensation.<\/p>\n<p>He also told the court that ARN\u2019s claim of unconscionable conduct towards Sandilands involved \u201cprior conduct towards Ms Henderson\u201d and not just the 20-minute on-air controversy that ended the most successful and lucrative partnership in Australian media.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Angus Stewart made orders for ARN to file its defence against Sandilands\u2019 claim next month when the case continues before the court.<\/p>\n<p>Sandilands has claimed that his criticism of Henderson on February 20, which reduced her to tears, was no different to many other arguments the pair have had over 27 years of working together and was used as a pretext by radio network ARN to tear up their contracts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn argument did happen. Her on me, me on her. We just get over it usually. So I think this has all turned into quite a circus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In legal documents to launch his court claim on Monday, Sandilands\u2019 lawyers revealed the radio and television personality receives a $120,000 annual allowance for flights, $500,000 in advertising for his products and a $7.4 million base salary, along with other benefits.<\/p>\n<p>In the court filing, Sandilands\u2019 lawyers wrote: \u201cThe exchange was congruent with the style, tone and nature of the Show and the robust character that [ARN] \u2018desired\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Sandilands claimed the termination of his contract by ARN was \u201cinvalid\u201d because he committed no serious misconduct or breach. If there was a breach, he had no reasonable opportunity to \u201cremedy\u201d it as Henderson\u2019s contract had already been terminated, Sandilands\u2019 lawyers argued.<\/p>\n<p>He says he is still owed upwards of $85 million as part of the deal agreed in 2023, which also included a $200,000 consultancy fee among a series of clauses.
