Instead, it was the Tigers who were sharking the ball time and time again.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a problem for Fremantle \u2013 again the hitout from Darcy straight to a Richmond player sharking the ball in (Dion) Prestia,\u201d two-time premiership Roo David King said in the first half.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve got to get this hitout work sorted out.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are dominating the actual tap \u2013 that\u2019s a given.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s smart footy \u2026 It was Jackson that did the baulk of the damage.\u201d<\/p>\n
By three-quarter time, Freo had run away with the contest by kicking 5.9 to just 0.1.<\/p>\n
2. DOCKER DELIGHT AS STAR DRAWS CAREY COMPARISON<\/p>\n
Josh Treacy is the \u201cnew sheriff in town\u201d for Fremantle and \u201cnumber one power forward\u201d in the game.<\/p>\n
And he\u2019s not going it alone.<\/p>\n
Despite the wet weather conditions, the Fremantle talls in attack were devastating after half time as a warning was issued to the rest of the competition.<\/p>\n
By three quarter time, Treacy was targeted 10 times, Voss targeted 9 and Amiss the 8 inside 50 \u2013 sharing the attack load.<\/p>\n
\u201c(Fremantle) had a semi taste of what could have been last year \u2013 now it\u2019s time to get serious,\u201d Fox Footy\u2019s David King said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this is a premiership team in waiting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it\u2019s this year, next or the years beyond that \u2013 well it\u2019s in their hands.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve just got this ruthless edge Freo \u2013 and I know we haven\u2019t really spoken about them like that over the last couple of years.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut 2026, they\u2019ve got some anger.\u201d<\/p>\n
And some of that anger comes through forward star Josh Treacy.<\/p>\n
Treacy was the difference in the wet as he clunked everything that came his way.<\/p>\n
King described Treacy\u2019s hands as \u201cregistered weapons\u201d given how clean he handled the ball.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe might have the cleanest hands I\u2019ve seen since Carey,\u201d said King, who labelled Treacy the \u201cnumber one power forward in the competition\u201d post-match.<\/p>\n
\u201cI honestly believe this guy is going next level now.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe see Naughton, Darcy \u2013 his hands are as good if not better than the competition right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFremantle\u2019s forward line is lethal, led by Josh Treacy,\u201d Adam Papalia added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the competition weren\u2019t before, they\u2019ll be taking notice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Statistics show Treacy is currently ranked the AFL\u2019s number one in contested possessions and contested marks for forwards.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf those numbers if they can hold season long, I think they entrench themselves in the top four and become a genuine premiership contender,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n
Treacy finished with an equal career-best 12 marks in Saturday\u2019s wet weather contest.<\/p>\n
1. EXPERIMENT THAT PAID OFF FOR RICHMOND<\/p>\n
Two-time premiership Roo David King put it to the Tigers pre-game: \u201cI want to see something different before the season just runs its course\u201d.<\/p>\n
And that\u2019s what he got with stand-in skipper Tim Taranto heading forward at every opportunity to punish Freo on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n
Statistics show Richmond are ranked 18 in the AFL at centre bounce \u2013 winning 26 but only scoring 1.1 in their opening games.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are getting their hands on the ball \u2013 I\u2019d love to see some experimentation here,\u201d King called.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaranto, Hopper and Ross pretty much exclusively at centre bounce \u2013 and they get their hands on the ball. They do what they\u2019ve been asked to do \u2013 they perform their role.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor all their good work, they are really not getting any scoreboard reward.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to learn about this group \u2013 it\u2019s time to start exploring.\u201d<\/p>\n
And explore is what coach Adem Yze did, with Seth Campbell getting centre bounce minutes while Taranto shifted to attack.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like Taranto in the forward 50. I think it\u2019s something different. Can take a mark,\u201d King praised.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just like in these conditions when the ball hits the deck, you\u2019ve got a midfield operator.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Prestia goes into the contest\u2026 that\u2019s the perfect time for Taranto to push forward and become a number inside 50 for the Tigers with his experience,\u201d Brad Johnson added.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood coaching to put Taranto inside forward 50,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n
By half time, Taranto racked up 16 disposals \u2013 8 contested, 7 tackles and two goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s doing it all on both sides of the game \u2013 on attack and in defence as well,\u201d Johnson praised.<\/p>\n
\u201cSix of his 16 (disposals) inside the forward 50 \u2013 and that\u2019s bang for buck,\u201d King added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a tactical win for Adem Yze.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s put Campbell in at centre bounces \u2013 he\u2019s exposing him. Let\u2019s see what his ceiling is.<\/p>\n
