JAKARTA – 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic super heavyweight (92 kg and above) bronze medallist Filip Hrgovic is preparing to face Dave Allen in a heavyweight fight at the Eco-Power Stadium, Doncaster, England, on May 16.

“Hrgovic will face Allen as the main event in a Queensberry Promotions event broadcast on DAZN,” The Ring reported on its official website which was monitored in Jakarta, Saturday.

Hrgovic of Croatia has a record of 19 wins with 14 knockouts (KO) and one defeat, and is now ranked fourth by The Ring in the heavyweight division.

After losing a KO in the eighth round to Daniel Dubois in June 2024, which made him fail to capture the interim world heavyweight champion (interim) belt of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the 33-year-old boxer managed to return his career to the right track in 2025 by winning two consecutive victories through a unanimous decision in 10 rounds against Joe Joyce and David Adeleye.

The boxer nicknamed “El Animal” also gave Zhilei Zhang his first defeat in August 2022.

Now, Hrgovic is preparing to enter the opponent’s cage in Doncaster against Dave Allen who is more experienced with a record of 25 wins (20 KO), eight losses, and two draws.

Allen has shown mixed form in recent years. However, the 34-year-old boxer has re-established his position in the heavyweight division with a dramatic victory in the fifth round over Johnny Fisher, who was previously undefeated, in a rematch in May 2025.

With the best victory of his career, Allen avenged a controversial defeat via a split-decision by Fisher in December 2024.

After defeating Fisher, the boxer nicknamed “The White Rhino” lost by unanimous decision in a 12-round fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov in October 2025. Since then, he has won again by defeating Karim Berredjem in one round in February 2026.

Allen is no stranger to facing world-class boxers. However, most of the duels ended in defeat when facing Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz, Frazer Clarke, Tony Yoka, and David Price throughout his 14-year professional career.

Allen is looking forward to the fight against Hrgovic as it is a big fight at home, in front of his supporters at Doncaster. A night like that rarely comes along and he is determined not to waste it.

Allen admitted Hrgovic is a tough opponent, but he is confident of delivering an unforgettable night for Doncaster.

Queensberry Promotions promoter Frank Warren said the fight would be a big moment for the city of Doncaster and for fans who have supported Allen throughout his career.

On the other hand, Hrgovic has also become accustomed to defeating British heavyweight boxers. “So this is really Dave’s fight against Goliath,” said Frank Warren.
