{"id":572082,"date":"2026-03-29T12:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T12:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/572082\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T12:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T12:56:08","slug":"andy-reid-patrick-mahomes-is-doing-great-but-no-timeline-on-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/572082\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Reid: Patrick Mahomes is doing great, but no timeline on return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chiefs coach Andy Reid is liking what he\u2019s seeing of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is now <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/patrick-mahomes-posts-throwing-video-says-he-feels-great-three-months-after-torn-acl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">throwing the football<\/a>, three months after surgery to repair a torn ACL. <\/p>\n<p>Reid said Mahomes is hard at work and doing well, although he declined to say whether Mahomes will be ready to play Week One.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/chiefs-hc-andy-reid-has-had-a-lot-of-time-to-think-about-retooling-after-down-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">He\u2019s doing great<\/a>,\u201d Reid told Judy Battista of NFL Network. \u201cHe spends a ton of time in the building. . . . He\u2019s in there for seven hours a day. It\u2019s showing, the progress. Now, to tell you a timeline? I mean, I know what he\u2019s striving for. We\u2019ll just see where it goes from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Mahomes can\u2019t play at the start of the regular season, Reid said he\u2019s confident that the Chiefs can win with newly acquired backup quarterback Justin Fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, we snuck out and got a good quarterback to back him up,\u201d Reid said. \u201cSo, if he doesn\u2019t, you know, if he\u2019s not able to make it for the beginning of the season, then we know we\u2019ve got a legitimate backup there that can go win games for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Week One is about nine months after Mahomes suffered the injury, which would be a relatively fast recovery time for a torn ACL.
