Cycling BC athletes delivered some terrific performances at the 2026 Canadian Jr.\/U17 Track Nationals this past weekend, March 27-29, in Edmonton, Alberta, bringing home an impressive 21 medals, including 10 Canadian National Championship titles. This year\u2019s Championships marked a milestone as the first national event held at the new velodrome in Coronation Park\u2014an incredible UCI-certified facility in our neighbouring province of Alberta.<\/p>\n
A big highlight of the weekend was the opportunity for our current BC athletes to connect with Tendo Mukahanana, the recipient of the Trudy and Doug Peden Women in Sports Award<\/a> in 2025 and an alumnus of the Cycling BC High Performance Team. This was a meaningful experience for both the athletes and staff, allowing them to engage with one of BC\u2019s inspiring role models in track cycling.<\/p>\n On Friday, Day 1 of the competition, the 2026 championships kicked off with the Individual Pursuit and Keirin events. Cycling BC riders set the tone early, achieving several personal bests, including setting Cycling Canada \u201cA\u201d time standards on the new track. Amos Scott Bouris of Victoria, BC, opened the medal count with a bronze in the Junior Men\u2019s Individual Pursuit, while West Pollock from North Vancouver added a silver in the Keirin. Damian Babul (U17) of Vancouver and Cohen Vigliotti (Junior) from Burnaby each claimed Canadian National Champion titles in the Keirin.<\/p>\n Saturday (Day 2) saw athletes compete in the Sprint, Points Race, and Elimination events, with Cycling BC continuing its strong showing. Cohen Vigliotti and Damian Babul once again reached the top step of the podium, each winning their respective Points Races. West Pollock (Junior Men) and Morty Karelse (U17) from Coquitlam both earned silver in the Sprint, while Amos Scott Bouris claimed victory in the Junior Men\u2019s Elimination Race. Damian Babul added another medal with a silver in the U17 Elimination after a hard-fought race to the line.<\/p>\n Sunday (Day 3) wrapped up the final day of competition with the Team Pursuit, Team Sprint, Time Trial\/Kilo, and Madison events. Both the U17 and Junior Men\u2019s Team Pursuit squads earned silver medals. In the Team Sprint, the U17 Men\u2019s team added another silver, while the Junior Men\u2019s team captured the Canadian National title.<\/p>\n In the Time Trial\/Kilo events, Damian Babul continued his dominant weekend, taking gold in the U17 Men\u2019s Time Trial. In the Junior Men\u2019s Kilo, West Pollock claimed gold, with Amos Scott Bouris completing a strong Cycling BC showing at nationals by earning bronze.<\/p>\n The Madison, one of the most exciting events of the weekend, closed out the Championships with more podium finishes for BC. Madelena Dodd of Victoria took bronze in the U17 Women\u2019s event, while Damian Babul and Noel Maraun from Anmore earned bronze in the U17 Men\u2019s race. In the Junior Men\u2019s Madison, Cohen Vigliotti and Amos Scott Bouris teamed up and delivered an outstanding performance to claim gold and the coveted maple leaf jersey.<\/p>\n It was a fantastic weekend of racing for Cycling BC, highlighted by personal best performances, national titles, and an exceptional medal haul.
