Australians are being urged to stay patient as global markets tumble in the wake of escalating conflict in the Middle East, with financial experts warning against panic despite crumbling super and share portfolios.<\/p>\n

Stocks have fallen since Donald Trump triggered the conflict, adding to mounting financial pressures already facing households across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything\u2019s just gotten more expensive over the last few weeks,\u201d one Aussie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf my mortgage goes up again, I\u2019ve got no money,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n

Financial expert David Koch has devised a three-point strategy to help Australians survive the economic storm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe three-point plan is don\u2019t panic,\u201d Koch said, particularly when it comes to superannuation.<\/p>\n

One of the world\u2019s biggest investment providers, Vanguard, has spent decades tracking the returns of different shares, highlighting that while markets tumble and dive during conflict and uncertainty, they all eventually stabilise.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvesting, particularly as it relates to superannuation, is a marathon, not a sprint,\u201d Vanguard Australia\u2019s Daniel Shrimski said.<\/p>\n

Managers are stressing that investors can often afford to wait out the volatility.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019d gone to cash during COVID, your superannuation return would be 50 per cent less than if you\u2019d just stuck in there,\u201d Koch said.<\/p>\n

The second point is to scrutinise everyday spending and household bills, with deals and savings often available for those prepared to look.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo through every single major bill that you\u2019ve got to see whether you\u2019re getting the best deal,\u201d Koch advised, including mortgages.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do expect the Reserve Bank of Australia will deliver one more cash rate hike in their May meeting,\u201d ANZ economist Sophia Angala said.<\/p>\n

Kochie\u2019s final tip is support among friends and family.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalk to each other as a family to make sure you\u2019re approaching this as a team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
