{"id":57640,"date":"2025-08-10T12:52:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T12:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/57640\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T12:52:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T12:52:12","slug":"supercars-news-driver-cleared-of-serious-injury-after-ipswich-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/57640\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars news: Driver cleared of serious injury after Ipswich crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-09-145735-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\u2018Bloody sore\u2019 Hughes cleared of serious injury after crash\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMason Kelly ploughed into Jarrod Hughes at Turn 3 during the first Super2 Series race at Queensland Raceway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2025-ipswich-super440-super2-rylan-gray-wins-post-race-investigation-mason-kelly-jarrod-hughes-crash\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hughes was t-boned by Mason Kelly in Saturday\u2019s opening race at Queensland Raceway, Kelly bouncing across the inside of Turn 3 before making heavy contact with the Image Racing Commodore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After being treated by on-site medical crews Hughes was <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-ipswich-super440-jarrod-hughes-super2-series-crash-hospital-comments-reaction\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sent to a hospital in Brisbane for further scans on his left shoulder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has since been cleared of any breaks or fractures, however heavy bruising has left him in significant pain.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A massive shunt on Lap 2 lead to a lengthy safety car stint.<\/p>\n<p>Mason and Jarrod are out of the cars and OK.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Super2?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#Super2<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ATKnKkhULF\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ATKnKkhULF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dunlop Super2 Series (@Dunlop_Series) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Dunlop_Series\/status\/1954052379160264960?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">August 9, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Motorsport Australia medical team wanted me to go the hospital to make sure there was nothing broken in my left shoulder because it was pretty painful,\u201d Hughes told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t think there was anything broken, but wanted to make sure. I was there for about three hours for tests and it came back all good. No breaks, no fractures, just really bruised up and bloody sore this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crash has come at a particularly bad time for Hughes who is set to join Erebus Motorsport for the pre-enduro test at QR on Tuesday before partnering with Craig Lowndes at the two-driver TA2 event back at the Ipswich circuit next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Given his current pain levels, Hughes admits that at least the Tuesday test is in doubt.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll soon find out,\u201d he said when asked if he\u2019ll be in the car. \u201cToday it hurts a lot, so I guess I\u2019ll see how it feels tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll do everything I can to make sure it\u2019s okay. It hurts a lot, but considering how big the shunt was, I think I\u2019ve come out quite okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the specifics of how the crash led to the bruised shoulder, Hughes added: \u201cI don\u2019t really know, it happened so fast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to go and check out the car and see if I can work out what happened. I think my hand came off the steering wheel and it might have flung around to the left.
