{"id":578430,"date":"2026-04-01T11:31:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T11:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/578430\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T11:31:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T11:31:08","slug":"china-expects-severe-flooding-drought-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/578430\/","title":{"rendered":"China expects severe flooding, drought in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">HONG KONG \u2013 China is likely to face severe flooding and drought in several parts of the country in 2026, state broadcaster CCTV said on April 1. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Citing the Ministry of Water Resources, the broadcaster reported that 2026\u2019s flood season, beginning on April 1, will see more severe flooding in the traditionally arid north of the country, while typhoons may move northwards and affect inland areas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From April to May, some areas in the Pearl River Delta, Fujian, Zhejiang and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River may experience floods that exceed warning levels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Areas in the south-west may experience periods of drought. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From June to August, some areas, including the Songliao River basin, Hai River and Pearl River, may experience major floods. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">During the same period, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and northern Xinjiang may experience periods of drought due to high temperatures and low rainfall.
