\n\tRomanian auteur Radu Jude<\/a> (Kontinental \u201925<\/a>, Bad Luck Banging or\u00a0Loony Porn, Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World<\/a>) is world premiering his much-anticipated new feature, Dracula, at the Locarno Film Festival on Sunday, but he is already writing a movie about a popular character from another iconic horror novel \u2013 Frankenstein<\/a>. And none other than Marvel Cinematic Universe star Sebastian Stan<\/a> (The Apprentice, A Different Man<\/a>, Pam & Tommy, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) is set to star in it.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m writing a film now,\u201d Jude tells THR. \u201cIt\u2019s a Frankenstein film in Romania. Frankenstein in Romania, it\u2019s going to be called.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStan and the iconoclast previously discussed their interest in a collaboration, but Jude didn\u2019t immediately have an idea. Then he pitched the star, who was born in Romania before moving to the U.S. with his mother, his idea for the Frankenstein film, which Stan liked, according to Jude. The auteur tells THR that he envisions Stan playing \u201cboth roles,\u201d that of Victor Frankenstein and his monster.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe story is understood to combine the real-life existence of a secret CIA prison in Romania in the past with the legend of the Frankenstein monster.<\/p>\n

\n\tGuillermo del Toro\u2019s\u00a0dark reimagining of\u00a0Frankenstein<\/a>, featuring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth, a Netflix production, was recently unveiled as being part of the selection for the Venice Film Festival<\/a> competition lineup.<\/p>\n

\n\tAuteur Jude has had a busy 2025. Earlier this year, he world premiered Kontinental \u201925<\/a>, an absurdist comedy-drama about Romania\u2019s housing crisis and the country\u2019s conflicted middle class, at the Berlin Film Festival. It ended up winning the Silver Bear<\/a> for best screenplay.<\/p>\n

\n\tJude world premieres Dracula<\/a>, his dissection of the Dracula myth that is full of the black comedy for which he has developed a reputation, in the main competition program of the 78th edition<\/a> of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland later on Sunday afternoon. \u201cThis film features scenes that could shock the sensitivity of some viewers,\u201d the fest website notes.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Locarno, Jude plans to shoot another film. \u201cIt\u2019s like a very distant dialogue with The Diary of a Chambermaid, the novel by [Octave] Mirbeau,\u201d the auteur tells THR. \u201cI want to speak about immigration and about Romanians working abroad. It\u2019s about a woman who works for a French family in Bordeaux while her own small daughter remains home. So it\u2019s a film around these dramatic issues.\u201d <\/p>\n
