FILLMORE, Calif. (KABC) — A Fillmore community is at ease again after a large bear was spotted wandering through a residential neighborhood Wednesday, prompting a warning for residents to stay away from the area.<\/p>\n
The bear was first seen in the area, which sits below the Los Padres National Forest, Tuesday night, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said they were waiting for officials with the California Department and Fish and Wildlife to show up.<\/p>\n
AIR7 was over the scene as the large animal strolled in a seemingly peaceful manner between homes near 4th and A streets.<\/p>\n
At about 1 p.m., the bear was tranquilized by Fish and Wildlife officials, taking 6 people to carry out the very large bear.<\/p>\n
Neighbors said they had seen this bear around the neighborhood since Tuesday getting into yards, trash cans and even under a trampoline before officials removed him.<\/p>\n
“A lot of people were coming up and bothering him and he actually stood up and then he went around the whole house, and then he actually went to the front of the house where the people were but he didn’t attack no one, he just went to the bottom of the trampoline,” said Fillmore resident Pedro Cruz.<\/p>\n
The bear came dangerously close to a dog as it strolled through people’s backyards.<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear if this was the same bear seen throughout the area the last few weeks.<\/p>\n
Fish and Wildlife officials blocked the streets and stayed on scene until the bear was safely removed.<\/p>\n
They urge everyone that if they see another bear, especially in this neighborhood, to try and secure your trash cans, keep your pets inside and try to also stay as far away from that bear as you can — don’t approach the bear, leave it alone and call the experts so they can take care of it.<\/p>\n
