Damon Hill has warned Max Verstappen that if he is playing a game of cat-and-mouse with the FIA to influence the rule-making, he will come off second best.<\/p>\n

Add us as a preferred source on Google<\/a> to your favourites list for news you can trust<\/p>\n The Red Bull driver labelled it \u201canti-racing\u201d, \u201cFormula E on steroids\u201d and \u201cMario Kart\u201d.<\/p>\n Such is his dislike of the sport\u2019s new 50\/50 split between electrical and battery power, which has led to super clipping near the end of the straights and battery-dependent passes, Verstappen<\/a> has threatened to quit.<\/p>\n Speaking after qualifying in Japan, where he was P11, he said: \u201cI don\u2019t get upset about it. I don\u2019t get disappointed or frustrated by it anymore with what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know how I think about stuff, I don\u2019t need to mention it again. So yeah, a lot of stuff obviously for me, personally, to figure out.\u201d<\/p>\n Pressed on what he needs to think about, Verstappen simply replied: \u201cLife here.\u201d<\/p>\n He doubled down on that 24 hours later, saying: \u201cI\u2019m thinking about everything inside this paddock\u2026 You just think about, is it worth it? Maybe he needs a break.\u201d<\/p>\n However, if this is more a case of Verstappen threatening to quit in a gambit to influence the FIA into changing the regulations, Hill believes the four-time world champion won\u2019t be on the winning side of that standoff.<\/p>\n \u201cIf he\u2019s saying this in order to get some leverage on the way things are at the moment, I don\u2019t think that will work,\u201d Hill continued.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople will just say \u2018Max, go away, come back when you\u2019ve had a think about it\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t always get what you want.\u201d<\/p>\n The FIA and the Formula 1 teams will meet on 9 April to discuss the new regulations, but unless there is unanimous agreement, or at worst a super majority, nothing is likely to change this season.<\/p>\n Verstappen has a Red Bull contract that runs through to the end of the F1 2028 season, but of late it is his love for racing at the N\u00fcrburgring that has excited the Dutchman.
