\u2018We need to stop comparing lap times now\u2019<\/p>\n
In the same Canal+ interview, Quartararo also expressed frustration with constant lap time comparisons being made within Yamaha between the V4 and the inline-four.<\/p>\n
At COTA, Quartararo was about half a second quicker with his 16th-placed lap than he was in 2025 when he was 11th in qualifying.<\/p>\n
However, the difference in the pole time for Ducati at COTA between 2025 and 2026 was almost a second.<\/p>\n
COTA has been a weak track for Yamaha in recent years, though Quartararo doesn\u2019t believe the brand can expect a repeat of its Jerez heroics from last season, when he was on pole and second in the race, at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
In fact, he feels it would be pertinent for Yamaha to see that it is slower at previously good tracks in order to better understand its current situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that, whether it’s sunny or rainy, I don’t know what’s better, but I think that, above all [we have to] stop comparing lap times a bit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we compare within the team… Yes, in qualifying, we were half a second faster than last year, while the others gained a second.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, it will also be good, even for the team, to see that lap times are much slower than last year at circuits like Jerez and Le Mans.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it will be good for the engineers to see that.\u201d<\/p>\n
