The Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> are calling up shortstop Konnor Griffin<\/a>, the No. 1 prospect in baseball<\/a>, ahead of Friday’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, it was announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

If he remains with the team the rest of the season, the Pirates are eligible to receive a draft pick through the Prospect Promotion Incentive.<\/p>\n

Griffin, who turns 20 on April 24, was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 draft. Playing in the minors last year, the 6-foot-3, 222-pound shortstop batted .333 with a .941 OPS. He had some impressive moments in spring training this year, clubbing four homers in 16 games.<\/p>\n

He started this season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he has seven hits in his first 16 at-bats with three stolen bases.<\/p>\n
