Courtney Love<\/a> has shared details of Echo & The Bunnymen<\/a> guitarist Will Sergeant\u2019s work on her upcoming solo album. Find more details below.<\/p>\n

In recent months, Love has been building up hype for her second-ever solo album and long-awaited follow-up to 2004\u2019s \u2018America\u2019s Sweetheart\u2019.<\/p>\n

Back in November, she first revealed<\/a> that she had enlisted\u00a0Sargent for the new album, but not the \u201crude\u201d\u00a0PJ Harvey<\/a> and now, she\u2019s shared further details of Sargent\u2019s contributions to the record.<\/p>\n

In a recent appearance on The Magnificent Others\u00a0podcast with\u00a0Smashing Pumpkins <\/a>frontman Billy Corgan<\/a>, Love said: \u201cI want to tell you one thing about leads [lead guitars]. Because Will Sergeant is on my record shredding. But it\u2019s Will Sergeant shredding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Corgan then asks Love how many years it\u2019s been since her last album, to which she responded \u201c16\u201d, before adding \u201cRobert Smith<\/a> took that long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Love then says that she met Sergeant in 1981, \u201cwhich is crazy, dreams come true, man,\u201d adding that the guitarist \u201cdoes these incredible leads. I don\u2019t think he\u2019s ever played outside the Bunnymen, other than his solo stuff. Maybe I\u2019m wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also tells Corgan that Sargeant sent her Soundcloud links to \u201chis scoring stuff,\u201d which she says is \u201castonishing\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the same interview with Corgan,\u00a0the pair shared their mutual frustrations with \u201cgatekeeper\u201d Kim Gordon<\/a>, and Love asked\u00a0Dave Grohl<\/a>\u00a0to \u201cjust say we\u2019re cool\u201d \u2013 and for his fan base of \u201cstraight white males\u201d to stop \u201cpicking\u201d on her<\/a>. Back in March, Love said that the album \u2013 which has been in the works since 2009 \u2013 will also feature her ex-Hole<\/a>\u00a0bandmate\u00a0Melissa Auf Der Maur<\/a>. Once work on the album is done, Love says she\u2019ll return to touring.<\/p>\n

Though she\u2019s emphasised that Hole will not be reuniting, she added that Auf Der Maur will be touring with Courtney in support of the album.<\/p>\n

In 2021, she called her previous solo album one of her \u201clife\u2019s great shames\u201d, alongside Steve Coogan and crack<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In other Courtney Love news,\u00a0she recently auctioned her handwritten lyrics to Hole\u2019s \u2018Violet\u2019 for charity<\/a>, telling\u00a0NME\u00a0that the song is about \u201cmore than Billy Corgan\u201d.<\/p>\n

The song, long thought to have been written about him following their relationship in 1990, is also \u201d about sitting on the fire escape of his flat, sipping cheap wine and taking a Vicodin (oh, to be young!) while the Chicago sun sets, leaving behind a bejewelled amethyst sky,\u201d she explained.\u00a0The Smashing Pumpkins frontman later actually entered the auction himself<\/a>, quipping, \u201cI think it\u2019s about a guy I know a little bit\u201d.<\/p>\n

Love picked up the Icon Award at the 2020 NME Awards<\/a>. In her acceptance speech, she said: I woke up this morning and I have the honour of picking up this fuck you thing [waves NME award], which is fantastic in the capital of this fantastic country where I first picked up a New Musical Express in I don\u2019t know, 1981 in fucking Liverpool where I read the other day I lost my virginity to Joy Division\u2019s \u2018Isolation\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s psychotic. I\u2019m also 18 months sober today. I can\u2019t believe that and that\u2019s pretty wild. Thanks so much, I\u2019m very honoured. Thanks a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after that win, she spoke to\u00a0NME\u00a0about the early stages of her latest solo album<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s early days and I\u2019ve recorded several new songs whilst I\u2019ve been in London,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve also taken this time to enjoy rediscovering really good songwriters like Aimee Mann, who\u2019s from LA but went to Juilliard and is a genius and overlooked. Frances [Bean, daughter] sends me playlists, which are fantastic and full of artists that I hadn\u2019t come across before too.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for her upcoming memoir, Love has reportedly assured fans that it will arrive before Christmas this year, and will be distributed through HarperCollins.
