We’ve already seen one historic try scoring record shattered in 2026 – are we on the verge of witnessing another?<\/p>\n

Hot on the heels of Alex Johnston becoming the greatest tryscorer in premiership history, Penrith<\/a>‘s Tom Jenkins is well on track to crack one of the game’s longest-standing try feats.<\/p>\n

Way back in 1935, the legendary Dave Brown scored 38 tries for Eastern Suburbs – and like Ken Irvine’s 212 tries, it was a record many thought would stand for all time.<\/p>\n

But after just five games, Jenkins has the record in his sights.<\/p>\n

The Panthers flyer has already crossed for 12 tries<\/a> – the most by any player since 1908 in the first five rounds of a season.<\/p>\n

Jenkins is scoring at a stunning rate of 2.5 tries a game. If he keeps that up, he won’t just beat Brown’s record, he will obliterate it.<\/p>\n

The Panthers whiz kid already wrote himself into the history books on Friday night in the 50-10 thrashing of Melbourne<\/a>, becoming only the sixth player to score multiple tries in five straight games.<\/p>\n

He joins legends of the game in Johnston (2021), Parramatta’s Semi Radradra (2015), Newtown winger Ray Preston (1954) and St George’s Jack Lindwall (1940), and Brown (1935) on the podium.<\/p>\n

Jenkins, who is in second stint with the Panthers after an unsuccessful year with Newcastle in 2024 when he played just five games and failed to score a try, has formed a lethal combination on the left edge with centre Casey McLean.<\/p>\n
