{"id":584776,"date":"2026-04-04T10:18:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T10:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/584776\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T10:18:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T10:18:12","slug":"the-biggest-winners-and-losers-from-motogp-2026s-first-three-rounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/584776\/","title":{"rendered":"The biggest winners and losers from MotoGP 2026&#8217;s first three rounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marco Bezzecchi is MotoGP\u2019s biggest points improver in the opening rounds of the 2026 season, while Alex Marquez has suffered the sharpest decline.<\/p>\n<p>The Aprilia rider returns to Europe having pocketed 81 out of a possible 111 points from the Buriram, Brazil and COTA events.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a gain of 57 points compared to the same stage last year, when he was sixth in the standings after Buriram, Termas and COTA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/995158\/marco-bezzecchi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Bezzecchi<\/a>&#8216;s improvement is the largest on the grid, excluding team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/973236\/jorge-martin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jorge Martin<\/a>, who has scored 77 points this season but missed the entire start of last year due to injury.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian could have extended his advantage further, having lost a potential 24 points through Sprint crashes in Buriram, while holding the early lead, and at Circuit of the Americas, while chasing down Francesco Bagnaia for victory.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Bezzecchi would currently be trailing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/935450\/alex-marquez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Marquez <\/a>if the Gresini rider had matched the 87 points that put him top of the standings at this stage in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the Spaniard has scored just 28 points so far, a drop of 59, the largest on the grid.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Ducati GP26 rider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/911999\/francesco-bagnaia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Francesco Bagnaia<\/a> is next with a 50-point decline, followed by team-mate and reigning champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1654\/marc-marquez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marc Marquez<\/a>, down 41 points.<\/p>\n<p>Marquez won five races at the start of last year, then crashed out of the US MotoGP.<\/p>\n<p>This season has seen the Spaniard suffer two non-scores &#8211; in the Thai GP (technical) and COTA Sprint (crash) &#8211; fail to finish on the grand prix rostrum and take only one victory, in the Brazil Sprint.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Marquez\u2019s points loss is matched by VR46\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/889477\/franco-morbidelli\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Franco Morbidelli<\/a>, who finished in the top five for all but one of the opening six races last year, but only has a single top ten to his name this year.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, KTM\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1040772\/pedro-acosta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pedro Acosta<\/a> has scored almost four-times as many points, from 16 to 60, to hold an early third behind Bezzecchi and Martin in the world championship.<\/p>\n<p>For Honda, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/889489\/johann-zarco\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johann Zarco<\/a> is down 12 points year-on-year, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/911973\/joan-mir\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joan Mir<\/a> has dropped seven points, while team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/973240\/luca-marini\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luca Marini i<\/a>s up by three points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1452\/jack-miller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Miller <\/a>was the leading Yamaha rider after COTA last season, with 19 points, but is yet to score on the new V4.
