KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 A rookie catcher was cut from the starting lineup after he slept through his alarms and arrived late to practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carl Jensen of the Kansas City Royals overslept, forcing the team to shuffle their starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Team manager Matt Quatraro said Jensen was feeling “terrible” about the situation and was taking accountability for his error,\u00a0according to a report by the MLB.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNo running from it,\u201d Jensen said. \u201cJust didn\u2019t wake up to my alarm. Slept through it. Don\u2019t really have an excuse, nor should I. It sucks. Happens. I felt like I let my teammates down, coaches down. Just learn from it and know it won\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the MLB, Jensen said he woke up in a “full panic” and rushed to get to the stadium.<\/p>\n

Jensen eventually arrived, but not early enough to prepare adequately to start the game. He did end up coming in as Kansas City\u2019s catcher in the ninth inning of the Royals’ 5-1 loss.<\/a><\/p>\n

Salvador Perez, who was expecting to be Kansas City\u2019s designated hitter Thursday, ended up catching the first eight innings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to learn from it. Making sure if I don\u2019t set one alarm, maybe set three, four, as many as possible,\u201d Jensen said. \u201cMoving forward, that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do. Set a million alarms. Make sure I\u2019m up. It stinks, though.\u201d<\/p>\n

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino said Jensen, a 22-year-old rookie, needs to learn from this experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst and foremost, I\u2019m glad Carter\u2019s OK,\u201d Pasquantino told reporters. \u201cI mean, that was kind of the initial thought when you\u2019re trying to get a hold of his parents and everything like that \u2014 just make sure he\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n
