(ABC News: Lincoln Rothall)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Lynott said financial worries were felt collectively among her circle of friends and family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s people who are just in a lower financial bracket who are struggling, it&#8217;s everyone,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;People are always concerned about money, it doesn&#8217;t matter how much you earn.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Public transport on the rise<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Lynott is not alone is seeking alternatives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-03-30\/sa-treasurer-says-free-public-transport-not-on-the-cards\/106510092\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SA treasurer rules out free public transport, for now<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The South Australian government has no plans to follow other states in offering free public transport despite more than 70 service stations running out of at least one fuel type.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">South Australia&#8217;s Department of Infrastructure and Transport said it has anecdotally seen a &#8220;very slight decrease&#8221; in traffic across some key roads over the last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Traffic volumes commonly vary from day-to-day and can be influenced by weather, events, roadworks and traffic incidents,&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The department will monitor traffic over the coming weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Across the Adelaide Metro network, the demand has been more evident with thousands of additional daily trips.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Weekday patronage across the bus, train, and tram network increased by around 3 per cent between 16-22 March, compared to the same time last year,&#8221; a department spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This data has been normalised to exclude events, festivals, and any outliers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The department said the increase represents roughly 7,300 extra trips per weekday, which brings the total average to more than 261,000 per weekday across the entire network.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tags saying 'Pump not in use' tie around some nozzles at a fuel pump\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/09716bf6ead2fce6d378c14e733d07ff.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Some fuel types are out of stock at Adelaide service stations. Can we get petrol in the car to get them to school? Do we pay our energy bill? Do we pay our mortgage or our rent?&#8221; Mr Scanlon said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It becomes so often food, which you would think would be a staple, is becoming a privilege.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The charity delivers about 60,000 meals every week to people in need and relies mostly on a workforce of volunteers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Scanlon said increased running costs for their fleet of trucks could impact their services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s going to take away the opportunity to use those funds elsewhere, particularly in feeding people,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;While we have a fabulous relationship with BP, that can&#8217;t last forever and as those costs rise, it means there&#8217;s less money to go about for us to deliver the meals that we do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The unknown is a really difficult place to navigate \u2026 we all know things can&#8217;t be predictable, but this one&#8217;s a big one.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Working three jobs means Maddi Lynott is always on the move.
