A man is in a serious condition after being shot in the chest by police following a “confrontation” in Hobart’s northern suburbs early this morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tasmania Police said officers received a call for assistance at a property in Goodwood, north of Hobart, shortly after 4:30am.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They said the man was “outside threatening police” just before 6am and that “following a confrontation, police discharged their firearms, resulting in the man sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest”.<\/p>\n

Tasmania Police were called to a property at Rothesay Circle in Goodwood early on Sunday morning. (ABC News: Mitchell Woolnough)<\/p>\n

The man received first aid at the scene before being taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n

Tasmania Police said the man was alone at the property and that no-one else was injured.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“This is obviously a serious incident that is now under investigation,” Southern District Commander Jason Elmer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s an incident that is quite distressing for those parties involved and we are assisting with support to those affected,” he said.<\/p>\n
