{"id":586925,"date":"2026-04-05T11:19:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T11:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/586925\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T11:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T11:19:12","slug":"claremont-lawn-tennis-club-end-50-year-drought-with-state-league-tennis-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/586925\/","title":{"rendered":"Claremont Lawn Tennis Club end 50-year drought with State League tennis title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Claremont Lawn Tennis Club has claimed a historic State League victory, marking its first title win in more than 50 years and signalling a major resurgence for the western suburbs club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The win, secured last Saturday at Cottesloe Tennis Club, is the first time Claremont has taken out the top-tier men\u2019s State League competition since 1975 \u2014 and comes after more than two decades without any presence in the league.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Club president Rod O\u2019Dea described the win as an amazing moment for the club, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary..<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe haven\u2019t had a team for over 20 years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cTo not only return, but to win \u2014 and against such strong opposition \u2014 is just incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The grand final, hosted at Cottesloe Tennis Club, saw Claremont defeat a strong field, including a standout opponent who had gone undefeated all season until the decider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cOne of their players hadn\u2019t lost all season,\u201d Mr O\u2019Dea said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cSo for our player to beat him in the singles was a huge moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/86e7f1cef8208f114e05bce2118b24192361bce1.jpg\" alt=\"Head coach, Andre Vaz Pinto, member since 1955 Derry Macqueen, and club president Rod O'Dea. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconHead coach, Andre Vaz Pinto, member since 1955 Derry Macqueen, and club president Rod O&#8217;Dea.
