{"id":587820,"date":"2026-04-05T21:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T21:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/587820\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T21:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T21:46:09","slug":"showers-for-queensland-east-coast-as-forecasters-watch-tropical-cyclone-maila","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/587820\/","title":{"rendered":"Showers for Queensland east coast as forecasters watch Tropical Cyclone Maila"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">South-easterly winds will bring scattered showers to much of Queensland&#8217;s east coast this week, leaving inland parts of the state dry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Meanwhile, forecasters are keeping watch as a tropical cyclone in the Solomon Sea intensifies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Senior meteorologist Baden Gilbert from the Bureau of Meteorology said the mild rain set to fall along eastern coastal towns would dissipate by midweek.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;[The winds will be] a bit fresh out there for the rest of Easter; we&#8217;ll see showers clear from about Tuesday,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;In the short term on the coast, it will be quite windy; we do have strong wind warnings from the Gold Coast north to Cooktown before largely easing back \u2026 around Wednesday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Holiday-makers and those enjoying the fortnight break from school will get a chance to soak up warmer weather, with temperatures slightly above the April average.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s looking like a mild set-up really, especially for southern Queensland,&#8221; Mr Gilbert said.<\/p>\n<p>FNQ keeps watch on TC Maila<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Further north, forecasters are keeping an eye on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Maila, which was declared outside of Australian waters over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"BOM forecast track map of Tropical Cyclone Maila\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/8cc4360117411eae2c09e98ee653e77b.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Tropical Cyclone Maila remains in the Solomon Sea, with its exact track forward not yet clear.
