The WTA No. 104, who won Aug. 8 in her first appearance at her hometown tournament in three seasons due to an elbow injury, fell to No. 29 seed McCartney Kessler, 6-4, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>Serbia&#8217;s Hamad Medjedovic will play Carlos Alcaraz for a spot in the Round of 32. The ATP No. 72 defeated No. 26 seed Tallon Griekspoor, 6-4, 7-6 (3).<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a Lucky Loser moving on in the ATP main draw, too. Italian Luca Nardi, who lost his qualifying match Aug. 6, defeated No. 24 seed Denis Shapovalov, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4, taking advantage of eight double faults from his seeded opponent.<\/p>\n<p>Playing in a packed Grandstand court, Australian Adam Walton eliminated No. 12 seed and former Cincinnati Open champion Daniil Medvedev 6-7 (0), 6-4, 6-1.<\/p>\n<p>Walton won 12 of the final 17 games after getting bageled in the opening set tiebreak.<\/p>\n<p>Four days after being eliminated in the final round of qualifying, Lucky Loser Iva Jovic is now in the Round of 32.<\/p>\n<p>The 17-year-old California native cruised past No. 20 seed Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-0, in just over an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Jenson Brooksby, the ATP No. 101, now has four ATP 1000 wins this year after a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Lucky Loser Arthur Cazaux.<\/p>\n<p>Lucia Bronzetti notched an upset with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory over No. 15 seed Daria Kasatkina. Bronzetti won 68% of points on the first serve and 5-of-9 break points in the victory.<\/p>\n<p>ATP No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz got a key break, then held serve in the third set to avoid an upset against No. 56 Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 on Center Court.<\/p>\n<p>Coming off a three-set loss in the singles draw, Mason native Peyton Stearns kicked off her doubles campaign Aug. 10. Stearns and partner Marketa Vondrousova defeated the duo of Fanny Stollar-Fang-Hsien WU 6-4, 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>ATP No. 19 Alexei Popyrin is through to the Round of 32 after a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win over qualifier Martin Landaluce.<\/p>\n<p>Popyrin reached the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Playing in her first match in Mason since falling in last year&#8217;s final, Jessica Pegula handled Kimberly Birrell 6-4, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>ATP No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz looked untouchable in a 6-1 first-set win, but Damir Dzumhur responded with a dominant 6-2 second-set win to move the Center Court match into a third.<\/p>\n<p>No. 16 seed Clara Tauson advanced in the longest match of the day so far, defeating Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in a match that took 2 hours, 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>German qualifier Ella Seidel has now won four matches over the last six days to reach the Round of 32 at the Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n<p>Seidel&#8217;s win over Polina Kudermetova Aug. 8 was her first WTA 1000 victory. Now, the 20-year-old has a win over a top 10 seed and will face either Cincinnati native Caty McNally or McCartney Kessler in the Round of 32.<\/p>\n<p>Roberto Bautista Agut is through the Round of 32 after recording nine aces in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Cameron Norrie.<\/p>\n<p>Bautista Agut took advantage of six double faults from Norrie, who won just 1-of-7 break points.<\/p>\n<p>ATP No. 17 and No. 16 seed Jakub Mensik is through to the Round of 16 after an efficient 6-4, 6-2 win over American Ethan Quinn.<\/p>\n<p>Mensik notched 10 aces (against just one double fault) and won 82% of points on the first serve.<\/p>\n<p>After winning three times in Canada, Andrey Rublev started the Cincinnati Open on the right foot with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over 19-year-old Learner Tien.<\/p>\n<p>Tien had beaten Rublev in the Round of 32 of the DC Open last month.<\/p>\n<p>Coco Gauff made quick work of Xinyu Wang, winning 5-of-5 break points and 74% of points on the first serve in a 6-3, 6-2 victory that took just 1 hour, 9 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff will look for revenge in the Round of 32 against Dayana Yastremska, who beat her in the first round at Wimbledon last month.<\/p>\n<p>One day after her dominate 6-1, 6-4 win over Anastasia Potapova, WTA No. 3 Iga Swiatek has reached the Round of 16 after her second-round opponent, Marta Kostyuk, withdrew from the singles main draw with a right wrist injury, the tournament announced.<\/p>\n<p>WTA No. 40 Magda Linette won 4-of-6 break points and tallied seven aces in her 7-6 (4), 6-0 win over Rebecca Sramkova.<\/p>\n<p>WTA No. 2 Coco Gauff, the 2023 Cincinnati Open champion, is now on Center Court against Xinyu Wang. Gauff leads, 2-1, in the first set.<\/p>\n<p>In a competitive Center Court clash, WTA No. 9 and No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini defeated Maria Sakkari, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5), in a match that took 2 hours, 12 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Sakkari survived a pair of match points in the second-set tiebreak by breaking Paolini&#8217;s serve, but a double fault sent Paolini to the Round of 32.<\/p>\n<p>No. 32 seed Dayana Yastremska survived a scare against qualifier Viktoriya Tomova in the second round, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, in just over two hours. She awaits the winner of the Coco Gauff-Xinyu Wang match on Center Court later this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>American wild card Tristan Boyer won his first set against Jiri Lehecka, but eventually fell to the ATP No. 26, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Lihecka dished out nine aces and won 87% of first-serve points to punch his Round of 32 ticket for the second consecutive year in Mason.<\/p>\n<p>American Ashlyn Krueger did not win a game during the second set, but bounced back for a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win over Anastasija Sevastova in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>On the Champions&#8217; Court, Veronika Kudermetova upset No. 17 Belinda Bencic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (0).<\/p>\n<p>Jelena Ostapenko is through to the Round of 32 for the fifth consecutive year in the Cincinnati Open. The 28-year-old advanced after her opponent, Camila Osorio, withdrew due to an abdominal injury.<\/p>\n<p>Ostapenko reached the Round of 16 at the Cincinnati Open in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>American Reilly Opelka is through to the Round of 32 at the Cincinnati Open after a straight-set upset of No. 6 seed and ATP No. 8 Alex de Minaur, 7-6 (6), 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Opelka was previously 0-5 against de Minaur and this is his ninth career win over a top 10 opponent.<\/p>\n<p>Francisco Comesana is through to the Round of 32 after his opponent, No. 29 seed Luciano Darderi, retired during the second set.<\/p>\n<p>Day 6 of the Cincinnati Open has begun on a sun-splashed Mason morning. On Center Court, No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini is facing Maria Sakkari, the WTA No. 65.
