(ABC Pilbara: Alistair Bates)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;m feeling nervous, I&#8217;m getting stressed,&#8221; Ms McNabola\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;m trying to remain positive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s just a weird spot to be in, being quite literally stranded in a town so far up the west coast with not many options to be able to get out or to start earning money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Morally obliged&#8217; to pay staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Exmouth Adventure Company managing director Hal Paine said he felt &#8220;morally obliged&#8221; to pay the 10 new staff due to start with the business on Monday despite the town being shut to visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The company runs kayaking and snorkelling tours of the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A row of buses parked near a beach on a spectacular sunny day.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/b87502ebf7562fdc88ac0484442503ec.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Exmouth is a popular destination for whale shark tours. (ABC Pilbara: Andrew Chounding)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They were evacuated south to Carnarvon to wait out the cyclone, but flooding and infrastructure damage have left businesses closed, leaving them stranded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">More than a dozen buildings in Coral Bay sustained damage in the cyclone and the town and the national parks surrounding are still shut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Because of the cyclone we are stuck here, almost for one week and waiting for the roads to open so we can go up and start work again,&#8221; Ms Legnane said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The only way for the pair to get from Carnarvon to Coral Bay is by helicopter, but they are concerned that if they fly north they may arrive in a town closed for business.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A sign that says &quot;road closed&quot; sits outside the fence of a flooded business.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/d2efbf9b7d4297ce5f83a8a64399baf8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Roads were closed throughout Carnarvon and surrounding areas in the wake of the storm.
