Add us as a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=planetf1.com\" target=\"_blank\">preferred source on Google<\/a> to your favourites list for news you can trust.<\/p>\n<p>The first such meeting is due to take place later this week as those at the top of the sport analyse the impact of the new ruleset to date which, while having increased on-track overtaking, has also been criticised for how the new power units have affected both racing and qualifying.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2026-rules-andrea-stella-qualifying-priority-issue\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stella voiced his hope that his and his rivals\u2019 \u201cpriority number one\u201d<\/a> would be to improve the spectacle in qualifying, allowing drivers to push flat out over the course of a lap rather than requiring time for battery recharging mid-lap, or \u2018super-clipping\u2019 affecting top speeds.<\/p>\n<p>However such talks take place, the McLaren team principal believes all the teams head into them with a \u201cvery constructive\u201d attitude, and that changes should be expected during the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>The primary challenge may not be the politicking teams can sometimes bring to such discussions, though, but how to implement any planned changes.<\/p>\n<p>More on the 2026 regulations after the first rounds of the season<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/max-verstappen-fia-safety-rule-changes-force-action\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Verstappen\u2019s inspired solution to force F1 2026 rule changes<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/oliver-bearman-crash-f1-2026-backlash-driver-criticism\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F1 cannot ignore warning signs after Oliver Bearman crash exposes 2026 flaws<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot say whether the solutions will be implemented for Miami or later,\u201d Stella said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think that there will be adjustments made in 2026 in order to improve the way in which we utilise what\u2019s available in the power unit to retain, for instance, the challenge of qualifying and the excitement of qualifying, which is an excitement for the drivers, and also it\u2019s an excitement for the spectators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we had the last F1 Commission, the attitude by all parties was very constructive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t very difficult to identify the areas to work on, and I think all parties come with the will to find some solution and implement them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it will be too much of a political game. I think it\u2019s actually more of a technical challenge, like, what do you do in terms of adapting what\u2019s available in the current regulations to make sure that qualifying retains these challenging elements, and you are rewarded if you attack a high-speed corner, or if you are earlier on throttle, rather than being penalised because you used your battery too early and you won\u2019t take it later in the straight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s political. I think it\u2019s more technical and I would expect changes in \u201926.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A date of Thursday April 9 has been initially slated for these talks to get underway, with the F1 2026 season set to resume with the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.<\/p>\n<p>Want to be the first to know exclusive information from the F1 paddock?
