Patrick Mouratoglou\u2019s comments have sparked a wider conversation about the current state of tennis, even as the sport has seen steady growth in recent years.<\/p>\n
But Petchey, who has coached the likes of Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, is much more optimistic about where things are heading.<\/p>\n
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Petchey wrote: \u201cRecord crowds [and] record viewing figures for The Tennis Channel last month. [I\u2019ve] never seen so many twenty somethings in the stands and grounds at Indian Wells.\u201d<\/p>\n
He followed up with: \u201cThe reports of tennis death are greatly exaggerated. Facts are stubborn things,\u201d which appeared to be a direct response to Mouratoglou\u2019s comments, even if he didn\u2019t mention him by name.<\/p>\n

Mouratoglou\u2019s warning about the future of tennis may be overstated, but his efforts to push the sport forward shouldn\u2019t be overlooked.<\/p>\n
The UTS Tour, which offers a faster, more engaging format for younger fans, has gained real momentum, drawing strong crowds and positive attention.<\/p>\n
UTS events aren\u2019t struggling to fill seats. Their recent event in Nimes, won by Felix Auger-Aliassime, drew 13,000 fans to Les Ar\u00e8nes de N\u00eemes.<\/p>\n
Mouratoglou explained why he launched the UTS Tour: \u201cI\u2019d been thinking about it for a while. I really wanted to reach a new, younger fanbase for tennis, in addition to the existing one.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s an essential complement for the future, but we\u2019re not competing with what the ATP, the WTA or the Grand Slams are doing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a long-term vision; not for a moment did I think it was a\u00a0one-off\u00a0or that it would only last one or two years.\u201d<\/p>\n
