Aston Martin ambassador Pedro de la Rosa has detailed how Adrian Newey responded to the vibration concerns that have plagued the squad early in the year.<\/p>\n
The Silverstone-based squad has endured a challenging start to the campaign, with its car proving to be both uncompetitive and unreliable.<\/p>\n
The Honda power unit has been delivering significant vibrations to the car and creating an uncomfortable scenario for its drivers.<\/p>\n
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire in China due to the severity of the vibrations, but managed to finish the race in Japan – marking a breakthrough result for the team.<\/p>\n
De la Rosa highlighted that Newey, who designed the car and currently holds the role of team principal, was very open with the situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAdrian was really, really transparent,\u201d de la Rosa told Sky F1.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Australia, he explained the situation very well. We have vibrations that make it very uncomfortable for the drivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re working very hard with Honda. We tried some countermeasures here [in Japan] to mitigate the vibrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo everything is going in the right direction. But obviously we want to accelerate the process.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the engine has had its issues, so too has the chassis – but de la Rosa asserted Aston Martin is not sitting still when it comes to seeking improvements.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the chassis side, we have new parts on the front wing, front end plate, on the leading edge of the floor,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo there are a lot of things that are coming through just to be more competitive. You’re never competitive enough in F1.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere we are at the moment, we just need to make big steps, but we’re working on that.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just have to make sure that every time we run, we make the car faster.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIs it the power unit? Is it the aerodynamics? Is the suspension? We don’t care.
