Bodycam footage shows moment Tiger Woods is arrested for DUI \u2013\u00a0video<\/p>\nAustralian ace Jason Day has expressed sadness at Tiger Woods\u2019 plight but taken issue with the golf great\u2019s \u201cselfish\u201d judgement for driving under the influence.<\/p>\n
Woods has reportedly checked himself into rehab in Switzerland after being arrested and charged on 27 March after crashing his car near his home on Jupiter Island in Florida.<\/p>\n
The five-time Masters champion\u2019s absence from the season\u2019s first major remains a hot talking point, with Day offering up his thoughts about his \u201chero\u201d after a practice round on Monday (Tuesday AEST).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just shows the human element and the human side of someone that is struggling with some sort of an addiction,\u201d the former world No 1 said at Augusta National.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not immune to it just because he can hit a golf ball really well. He\u2019s had 25 to 30 something surgeries and, when you\u2019re going through that many procedures, it\u2019s painful coming out of those procedures.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had procedures done and I typically try and stay away from all that stuff because I just know that … painkillers, there can potentially be a downfall to it.<\/p>\n
\u201cGranted, when I look at that, I look at it and go, he\u2019s just a human being like everyone else and we have struggles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Day, though, said regardless how invincible Woods may feel, he should never have gotten behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate. The only thing that I don\u2019t understand is that it\u2019s a little bit selfish of him to drive and put other people in harm\u2019s way, as well,\u201d the 2011 Masters runner-up said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut when you\u2019re the player that he was and how strong-willed he is, he thinks he can do almost anything, and that\u2019s probably why he\u2019s probably driving and a little bit under the influence.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was my hero \u2013 he is my hero. He was my hero growing up. The reason why I play golf is because of this tournament and Tiger. It\u2019s hard to see him go through what he\u2019s going through, and especially under the microscope.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt must be hard to be who he is and have everything, everyone look on, kind of down on him. Some people want him to fail. Some people obviously want him to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really difficult for me to go through that and watch him, and I know that he\u2019s getting the help now, which is good. I\u2019m just hoping he comes out on the other side and is better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite having undergone endless rounds of back surgery himself, Day said he could never know what Woods was feeling.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is tough\u201d Day said. \u201cI\u2019ve never dealt with an addiction before, other than golf.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pretty addicted to that. But it must be tough to be isolated the way he is normally. He stays at home pretty much most of the time, doesn\u2019t really get out too much just because of how popular he is as a person.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then when you\u2019re at home, it\u2019s just difficult. Sometimes you don\u2019t have people around, loving people around enough to be able to steer you in the direction that you need to.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s human and we all make mistakes. That\u2019s just part of learning and getting better, and I\u2019m hoping that he gets the help that he needs and that he comes out stronger and better on the other side because, like golf misses him. We miss him here this week.<\/p>\n
