A Victorian mother of eight killed in a head-on crash south of Brisbane over the Easter long weekend has been remembered by family as “selfless” and “the light of many”.<\/p>\n

Roza Abebwa, 51, had just left her grandchild’s birthday party when the Ford Focus hatchback she was travelling in collided with a ute on School Road at Logan Reserve about 9:00pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Ms Abebwa died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Her two-year-old daughter and 28-year-old niece, who was driving the car, were taken to hospital but have since recovered from their injuries.<\/p>\n

Ms Abebwa’s son, Rashidi Edward, said his mother was “the kind of person, who made you feel safe, seen and cared for.”<\/p>\n

“She was the light of many, always making jokes, always finding a way to make people laugh even in the hardest moments,” Mr Edward said.<\/p>\n

“She was \u2026 always putting her children and others before herself without hesitation.”<\/p>\n

“She wasn’t just our mum, she was everyone’s mum \u2026 we loved her more than words can ever truly express,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Edward said life would never be the same without her.<\/p>\n

“She was our foundation, our strength and our home,” he said.<\/p>\n

Police probe hoon event link<\/p>\n

Police said initial investigations indicated the ute was driving at high speed and had crossed onto the wrong side of the road to overtake three other vehicles before the crash.<\/p>\n

The Ford Falcon’s four teenage occupants were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the 17-year-old driver was tested for illicit substances or alcohol.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Queensland Police Acting Inspector Peter Venz said police were investigating whether the ute was connected to a “large-scale hooning event” held in the area on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Inspector Venz said officers were also looking into reports the Ford Falcon did not have plates and was unregistered.<\/p>\n
