W\ufeffhen Nick Carter was just 12 years old, his parents saw an opportunity to change their family’s life forever.<\/p>\n

Music manager Lou Pearlman shared an ad in a local newspaper in Orlando, Florida, seeking young talent for a new boy band.<\/p>\n

That boy band would go on to become the Backstreet Boys.<\/p>\n

Carter was the youngest member of the group, signing on just before he turned 13.<\/p>\n

Now, with three children of his own, he has said he \ufeffwouldn’t make the same move as his parents \u2013 but the situations are very different.<\/p>\n

“My situation was unique,” he told KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Kip & Corey Oates on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

“My situation, my story, happens to be that I came from a family that we had nothing really. Middle-lower class family, five kids.<\/p>\n

“And my mother and father kinda saw an opportunity to utilise my talent for the benefit of the family.”<\/p>\n

He shared that there were ‘blessings’ in amongst the pressure and chaos of being a child star.<\/p>\n

“I was able to meet my four brothers in the Backstreet Boys who essentially, I would say, rescued me in a lot of ways,” Carter explained.<\/p>\n

“And so, for me, if I look back, a kid basically working and providing for his family at the age of 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, all the way up until you’re an adult, it’s not the right thing to do.”<\/p>\n

Three decades ago, she was Hollywood’s leading child star<\/p>\n

Looking back though, Carter said he has no regrets, adding that he’s “grateful” for the lessons he learnt during that time in his life.<\/p>\n

But, when it comes to his own children \ufeff\u2013 Odin, nine, Saoirse, five and Pearl, four \u2013 he wants them to wait a bit longer before deciding to go into the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

“When I look at my children, I just want them to have a normal life,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I want them to go to high school, college, I want them to be educated, I want them to play sports.<\/p>\n

“I want them to do all the things that I really wanted to do and didn’t get an opportunity to do.”<\/p>\n
