{"id":591095,"date":"2026-04-07T11:11:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T11:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/591095\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T11:11:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T11:11:08","slug":"james-rodriguez-minnesota-united-deny-midfielder-has-rare-muscle-wasting-condition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/591095\/","title":{"rendered":"James Rodriguez: Minnesota United deny midfielder has rare muscle wasting condition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Minnesota United have denied rumours that midfielder James Rodriguez is suffering from a potentially life-threatening muscle-wasting condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Colombia international returned to the club&#8217;s training ground on Monday after being hospitalised. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rodriguez, 34, showed signs of illness during Colombia&#8217;s 3-1 defeat by France on 29 March and subsequently spent three days in hospital with severe dehydration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A statement from the Colombia Football Federation on 2 April confirmed Rodriguez was under observation for a &#8220;non-sports-related medical condition&#8221; but said his prognosis was &#8220;favourable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Social media rumours and reports in some US media sparked concerns he was suffering from rhabdomyolysis \u2013 a rare condition sometimes linked to over-exertion which causes muscles to disintegrate and can lead to potentially fatal kidney damage when toxic muscle fibres enter the circulatory system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, Major League Soccer (MLS) side <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnufc.com\/news\/mnufc-provides-an-update-regarding-the-health-of-james-rodriguez\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota United said:, external<\/a> &#8220;The club and our medical professionals can unequivocally state there has been no clinical or laboratory evidence of rhabdomyolysis.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Minnesota United have denied rumours that midfielder James Rodriguez is suffering from a potentially life-threatening muscle-wasting condition.
