Seventeen years have passed since Lewis Hamilton endured what he described as “the worst thing I’ve experienced in my life”, a scandal so damaging it threatened to end his Formula 1 career before it had truly begun.<\/p>\n
The 2009 Australian Grand Prix season opener in Melbourne should have delivered Hamilton a podium finish.<\/p>\n
Instead, it triggered a sequence of events that would see him disqualified, his sporting director sacked, and McLaren hauled before the FIA World Motor Sport Council on charges of bringing the sport into disrepute.<\/p>\n
