TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has three pole positions and three wins from seven races this season, but don\u2019t expect to see managing director Jamie Whincup<\/a> jumping for joy anytime soon.<\/p>\n

For all that success, Triple Eight is in unfamiliar territory sitting outside the top two in both the drivers\u2019 and teams\u2019 championships.<\/p>\n

Broc Feeney<\/a> enters Taup\u014d holding third in the points. Will Brown<\/a> is way down in 13th. Their efforts combined have Triple Eight third in the live pitlane order behind Tickford Racing and Grove Racing.<\/p>\n

For perspective, the last time they finished outside the top two in the teams\u2019 championship was in 2006 \u2013 Whincup\u2019s first season driving for the squad.<\/p>\n

\u201cHigh performance is about consistency and we haven\u2019t been as consistent as we\u2019d like,\u201d Whincup told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve won races, so we\u2019ve performed at a high level, but we haven\u2019t been consistent and no one is more disappointed in that than I am.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not something we accept and we\u2019ll make sure we do better moving forward is all I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feeney\u2019s Albert Park crash aside, much of the focus has been on Brown\u2019s various woes, but that\u2019s not a narrative Whincup is buying into.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not one or the other. Both cars have been inconsistent, so we need to improve that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Triple Eight is this year fielding three full-time Supercars Championship entries for the first time since 2018, having struck a deal to run the SCT charter which underpins the Jackson Walls<\/a>-driven Mustang this season and next.<\/p>\n
