Companies surveyed indicated that the Middle East war, unstable market conditions, and inflationary pressures had “dampened growth.”

Even if oil prices stay elevated, inflation is unlikely to cross above 6%, but “downside risks to growth” are more significant, said Anubhuti Sahay, head of India economics research at Standard Chartered Bank, adding that a rate increase seems unlikely.

However, she said that in a scenario where other central banks raise key policy rates, and there is “tremendous pressure on the rupee,” then the RBI could “use policy rates as a tool to manage external sector risk.”

Choose CNBC as your preferred source on Google and never miss a moment from the most trusted name in business news.

Signage for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai, India, on Friday, April 5, 2024. Dhiraj Singh…

[11
283633,287204,281952,9073,64,63,99,174,50426,5056,164,259557,61283,7048,1209,53944,5626,262517,247555,5575,254853,251569,247559,247552,9074,252294,247551,254852
0":"post-592918","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-economy","8":"tag-lco26m","9":"tag-lco26u","10":"tag-ng26k","11":"tag-asia-economy","12":"tag-au","13":"tag-australia","14":"tag-business","15":"tag-business-news","16":"tag-central-banking","17":"tag-economic-events","18":"tag-economy","19":"tag-hdfc-bank-ltd","20":"tag-hsbc-holdings-plc","21":"tag-icici-bank-ltd","22":"tag-india","23":"tag-infosys-ltd","24":"tag-interest-rates","25":"tag-invesco-db-commodity-index-tracking-fund","26":"tag-invesco-db-oil-fund","27":"tag-iran","28":"tag-ishares-india-50-etf","29":"tag-ishares-msci-emerging-markets-etf","30":"tag-ishares-msci-india-etf","31":"tag-lp","32":"tag-prices","33":"tag-sp-global-inc","34":"tag-united-states-oil-fund","35":"tag-wisdomtree-india-earnings-fund
["GET
