Gerald Charles releases a continuation of its tennis-focused\u00a0watch with the Maestro GC Sport Tennis White.
\nWith updates to the grained dial with degrad\u00e9 white to grey dial and white rubber Velcro strap, the durability and wearability features remain that make this watch ready to be worn during a tennis match.

Gerald Charles was Gerald Charles Genta\u2019s last watch brand that he launched before his passing, founded after selling his brand Gerald Genta in the year 2000. Today, the brand continues launching timepieces based on the sketches and designs of the famed watch designer, with the tenets of technical mastery, versatility, and artistic creativity serving as the brand\u2019s guiding principles. Given Genta\u2019s expertise and success in watch design, he was often referred to as \u201cMaestro,\u201d serving as the inspiration for the Maestro line within Gerald Charle\u2019s current catalogue. The Maestro line has been well developed, including ultra-thin time-only models, chronographs, and tourbillons. The brand\u2019s latest release follows up on the Maestro GC Sport Tennis model released last year<\/a>, with the new Maestro GC Sport Tennis White featuring a theme that pays homage to tennis\u2019s historical dress code.<\/p>\n

Gone is the green tennis<\/a> ball theme of last year\u2019s release, and it is replaced with a white strap and grained textured dial with a white to grey degrad\u00e9 finish. The dial features applied indices with white SuperLuminova that glows green, with numerals for twelve, three, and nine, and baton indices for the remaining hours. At six o\u2019clock, there is a white date window with black numerals. The stick hour and minute hands also feature SuperLuminova, keeping nighttime legibility what you would expect from a sports watch.<\/p>\n

The case design and material from the previous Sport Tennis model carry over for this white-clad model. Made from grade 5 titanium and coated with Gerald Charles\u2019 trademarked Darkblast coating<\/a>, the watch remains light and durable. The Darkblast coating not only gives the case its matte black colour, but also increases scratch resistance by 10 times over standard grade 5 titanium. The 35-component case measures 39mm in width, 41mm in length and a svelte 9mm thick. Weighing a mere 64 grams and with a left-handed crown, the case is designed to sit flat and snug to the wrist, making it comfortable to wear during a tennis match or whatever sporting activity you may partake in. The case is water resistant to 100 metres and shock resistant to 5,000Gs, making it equally durable to withstand the rigours of repeated power serves.<\/p>\n

The white Velcro strap features quick-release spring bars and matching Darkblast grade 5 titanium hardware. Going off the Sport Tennis model released last year, the strap is made of vulcanised rubber made to mimic the feeling of leather, yet maintaining the convenience and durability of rubber<\/a> for sporting activities. The strap was tested by tennis players Andrea Vavassori and Hubert Hurkacz, attesting to the strap\u2019s and the overall watch\u2019s game-day performance. Available in different sizes, a perfect fit can be attained. Gerald Charles also has different colours available, should you want to swap straps, potentially leaving the white strap as pristine as possible (although I do appreciate a well-worn white strap with some funk on it).<\/p>\n

Inside is Gerald Charles\u2019 manufacture calibre GCA2001. This 3.7mm thin automatic calibre features colima\u00e7on, c\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e8ve, and perlage finishing, a golden rotor, hacking, and uni-directional winding. Operating at 4Hz and with a 50-hour power reserve, it is a well spec\u2019d and finished movement fitting of a high-end sport watch that can be viewed through the sapphire display caseback.<\/p>\n

Final thoughts<\/p>\n

Ultra-light and durable timepieces dedicated to sports aren\u2019t anything new in the contemporary watch world. With Richard Mille\u2019s many watches developed for star athletes<\/a>, and Omega\u2019s Ultra-Light Aqua Terra models being the first that come to mind, there are options. That being said, Richard Mille\u2019s eye-watering price tags make those watches unobtanium for most, and that is assuming one is available at retail. Omega\u2019s Ultra-Light Aqua Terra<\/a> is also quite expensive, currently selling at a punchy US$60,100. The Omega has Gerald Charles beat on the weight, with the Omega weighing 55 grams on its fabric strap compared to the GC\u2019s 65 grams, but that is still magnificently light.<\/p>\n

While this model is currently priced on request, based on last year\u2019s Maestro GC Sport Tennis\u2019s retail price of US$20,700 (as of April 2025), we can expect pricing to be somewhat similar. These watches surely aren\u2019t for everyone, but I definitely appreciate the engineering that goes into making an ultra-light and rugged timepiece. If such watches are of interest to you and you\u2019re in the market for a 5-figure sports watch, I think Gerald Charles is definitely worth considering.<\/p>\n
