\n\t\t\t\t\tABC steps back from direct partnerships with three diversity groups following questions about independence.\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

ABC is withdrawing from several diversity groups, following a review of external partnerships, in a move to bolster independence.<\/p>\n

Guardian Australia reports<\/a> the ABC announced plans to end its memberships with ACON Health\u2019s Pride in Diversity program, the Australian Disability Network, and the Diversity Council of Australia.<\/p>\n

An internal newsletter which flagged the change indicated a review found they were \u201cno longer providing sufficient value\u201d to the organisation. ABC management was also reviewing other existing partnerships and sponsorships, thereby \u201censuring that our standards of independence are maintained\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always invest in these fundamental principles,\u201d an ABC spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ABC remains committed to diversity and inclusion and will redirect funding to internal initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022 Media Watch host Paul Barry raised concerns about a possible conflict of interest, with ABC receiving a gold award<\/a> from ACON\u2019s Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) earlier that year. SBS was also recognised as a Gold Employer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not seek to, nor do we have, any influence over the way media outlets, who are members of Pride in Diversity, report issues, including the ABC,\u201d ACON said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to offer our services to employers to advance their diversity, inclusion and belonging goals in their workplaces.\u201d<\/p>\n
