He took the 185-pound gold thanks to his grappling dominance over Dricus du Plessis back in Aug. 2025. \u201cBorz\u201d almost had 22 minutes of control time on his way to a one-sided unanimous decision win.<\/p>\n<p>While Chimaev\u2019s dominance has dazzled many, some aren\u2019t exactly enamored with his fighting style. During an episode of the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/gMdtO_UBEDg?si=NldblM2VU-0x2DhA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cDeath Row MMA\u201d podcast<\/a>, Masvidal made it clear which side of the fence he\u2019s on (h\/t <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ufc\/2026\/04\/08\/ufc-jorge-masvidal-criticize-khamzat-chimaev-crotch-sniffing\/89512755007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MMAJunkie<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of that crotch sniffing, just sit there and sniff crotches,\u201d Masvidal said. \u201cYou have a chance to strike, but you\u2019re just holding the guy down because you\u2019re so scared they\u2019re going to get away when you\u2019re just at a halfway position just holding on for dear life. You\u2019re not advancing, you\u2019re not causing damage, and all you\u2019re doing is literally holding. Yeah, you\u2019re a better wrestler, but that\u2019s not fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chimaev is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjpenn.com\/mma-news\/khamzat-chimaev\/khamzat-chimaev-headline-ufc-328-nassourdine-imavov-snubbed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">set to defend the middleweight title against Sean Strickland<\/a> in the UFC 328 main event on May 9 in Newark. \u201cGamebred\u201d is confident that Strickland will give Chimaev problems throughout the fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this is going to be the first guy that actually challenges Chimaev in that realm,\u201d Masvidal said. \u201cEven if he gets a takedown, he\u2019s not just going to get to catch his breath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Strickland received his shot at Chimaev after steamrolling Anthony Hernandez in the second round of their UFC Houston battle. \u201cFluffy\u201d had been considered a serious threat at 185 pounds, but Strickland\u2019s forward pressure was simply too much.<\/p>\n<p>Keep it locked on BJPenn.com for the latest UFC 328 updates.
