Fifteen-year-old Isaac Brewin trains at Craven Community Boxing Club and has won four of his first five amateur bouts.

He is now aiming for a title shot at the club’s second home show in late May.

Brewin said: “I still don’t really see what was wrong with the schoolboy fight club.

“It was all organised with proper rules and well-matched bouts.

“My interest in boxing really began during lockdown when I was nine.

“I watched the Rocky films and couldn’t stop shadowboxing.

“Getting my first pair of gloves was a special moment – probably the best present a boy can have.”

Since joining Craven Community Boxing Club less than two years ago, Brewin has quickly built a reputation as a dedicated and technically skilled young boxer.

He said: “It’s not quite two years since I joined, and I’ve come on a lot in that time.

“There’s nothing like being on a show.

“It’s your chance to show how hard you’ve worked in training and test yourself properly.

“It’s about proving what you’re made of, both physically and mentally.”

Brewin’s debut bout took place at the Barnsley Metrodome in front of around 1,000 spectators.

Though just 14, he kept his composure and performed with confidence.

He said: “I was nervous, but also excited.

“I felt confident because of the work I’d put in.

“I focused on controlling the range and using my jab effectively.

“It was an amazing experience at a top venue.”

Since then, he has fought in other venues including Skipton, Bradford, and Morley.

Mark Shaw, head coach and founder of the club, said: “Isaac is an excellent student.

“He showed natural aptitude early on, but his success is largely down to his willingness to listen and his desire to improve his boxing IQ.

“That’s what separates boxing from simply brawling – understanding the technical details and applying them under pressure.

“In the ring, Isaac shows a strong ability to adapt to his opponent.

“He’s enthusiastic, committed and already setting a positive example for the younger boxers in the gym.”

Brewin said boxing has had a wider impact on his life, beyond competition.

He said: “This gym is my safe place.

“I feel at home here.

“I had a month out last autumn through illness and found it difficult mentally.

“Coming back made a huge difference straight away.

“It’s not just the training, it’s being around people who share the same goals.

“A few of my friends from school have joined as well, and it keeps us focused and away from negative influences.

“I’d encourage any teenager to give it a go.”

While boxing’s physical demands can be concerning for parents, Brewin’s mother Emma said the family’s pride outweighs their nerves.

She said: “Of course I worry – I think every parent would.

“But his dad Ricky, his siblings and I are incredibly proud of what he’s achieved.

“I’m probably more nervous than he is before a bout, but I wouldn’t miss it.

“It’s clear that Mark genuinely cares about each boxer, and that gives us real confidence.”

With a potential title fight on the horizon and momentum building behind him, Brewin’s journey is just beginning.

Those closest to him believe it’s one grounded in dedication and discipline – qualities that have already made him a standout figure at his club and a rising star in the local boxing scene.

Fifteen-year-old Isaac Brewin trains at Craven Community Boxing Club and has won four of his first five amateur…

[571
64,63,802,85
post-594734","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-boxing","tag-sports
["GET
