Former All Blacks captain Kieran Read believes that any apparent dissatisfaction with Scott Robertson should have been nipped in the bud before the ill-fated review.<\/p>\n

The Crusaders legend was sacked in January following an underwhelming couple of seasons in charge.<\/p>\n

An end-of-season review, in which the senior players were interviewed by a panel led by NZ Rugby chair David Kirk, appeared to put paid to Robertson\u2019s<\/a> chances of leading them into the 2027 Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n

Concerns with the All Blacks\u2019<\/a> \u2018trajectory\u2019 were cited by Kirk as the reason for the change in head coach, but there were reports of players being unhappy with the culture and environment.<\/p>\n

If that was the case, Read<\/a> suggested that those views should have been out in the open in order to potentially rectify the issues.<\/p>\n

\u2018You shouldn\u2019t be getting to that\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say what happened. You look at it from the perspective around culture and around needing alignment between everyone,\u201d he told the Between Two Beers podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only whispers you can gain from are what\u2019s been said in the media, which tells you there maybe wasn\u2019t quite alignment there.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me I look at that and go, \u2018that\u2019s tough to take as an ex-player\u2019. I think as players you shouldn\u2019t be getting to that. You should be proactive and what you can try and achieve in this team, and that\u2019s really about having conversations that need to be had.\u201d<\/p>\n

Read therefore hopes that the All Blacks players \u201cfind their voice\u201d with Dave Rennie<\/a> now at the helm as they look ahead to a huge Test season, which includes four Tests against the Springboks in The Greatest Rivalry series.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Dave Rennie coming in, you\u2019ve got three games and then you\u2019re going to one of our greatest rivals. It\u2019s the best tour, that would be so awesome to play on that tour,\u201d the two-time Rugby World Cup winner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need your players to be fully committed and the players need to find their voice. They can\u2019t wait to see what Dave\u2019s going to be like, they need to go and be proactive, the players need to start the discussions because there are other guys out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat essentially is what it comes down to and it\u2019s more and more that way \u2013 the players are the ones out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need to find that voice so they will need to do that themselves but also be given that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Read knows Robertson well having worked with him while at the Crusaders and believes that he could benefit from the All Blacks disappointment in the long-term.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just look at it from the perspective of being a mate and you feel for him,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of go, \u2018how or why it couldn\u2019t be fixed?\u2019 Obviously, something\u2019s in there, I\u2019m not privy to that information so it\u2019s a case of an ex-player\u2019s perspective where you want the jersey to be at its best.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou definitely feel for Razor. There are lessons within that, let\u2019s not lose those lessons over the last couple of years. It\u2019s going to require the players to step up because Dave Rennie\u2019s coming in and he hasn\u2019t got the same lessons that Razor\u2019s got.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Razor\u2019s just had over those two years, they\u2019re going to be so valuable for him moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
