An Australind retiree\u2019s routine trip to his local shop was a stroke of luck after a $2 slip delivered him a whopping $1 million return.<\/p>\n
During a weekly errand run on his gopher, the man, in his 70s, popped by his local newsXpress in Treendale to buy a Millionaire Medley ticket as usual.<\/p>\n
Returning later to have his slip scanned, the man was left perplexed as staff directed him into the back office.<\/p>\n
Little did he know that a $2 Slikpik 3 ticket had scored him a life-changing division one win.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t sure what to think when they first asked me to come around the back, but I definitely didn\u2019t think it was to tell me I was a millionaire,\u201d the winner said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was in complete shock, the girls in the store are so lovely, and there were lots of cuddles and kisses to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now an unexpected millionaire, the West Aussie celebrated the win at lunch with his children and grandchildren. He plans to buy a new car and travel around Australia via train.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
NewsXpress Treendale owner Sandee Mazza said it was heartwarming to see the win go to a regular customer.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so exciting for the local community… people have been very positive about the win and sending us lots of congratulations,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know this customer loves spending time with his children and grandchildren, so it\u2019s lovely to think of him celebrating the prize with his family and making his life more comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the win was a boost for the wider community.<\/p>\n

The $1m win ends a dry spell of lotto luck for WA following a fiery hot streak of division one glory to start 2026.<\/p>\n
Most recently, a group of Perth workmates snagged a $1.2m windfall after playing lotto together for more than three years.<\/p>\n
One member discovered the life-changing win while checking the numbers and quickly raised the alarm.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d they said. \u201cI kept thinking, \u2018Am I reading this properly?\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cI called my colleague and told them they needed to check our ticket as soon as possible!<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought we\u2019d won maybe $10,000 \u2014 I would have been happy with $1000!\u201d<\/p>\n
