England international George Furbank has agreed to join Harlequins ahead of the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old has spent his entire senior career at Franklin\u2019s Gardens after initially breaking into Northampton\u2019s senior side during the 2018\/19 campaign. During that year, he helped the Saints win the Premiership Rugby Cup, earning their first piece of silverware in five years.<\/p>\n
Furbank was also a vital component of Northampton\u2019s PREM win in 2024<\/a>, when they defeated Bath Rugby at Twickenham Stadium. Ahead of the 2024\/25 season, the versatile playmaker was then appointed Northampton\u2019s 66th Captain, later making the final of the Investec Champions Cup, losing narrowly to Bordeaux Begles.<\/p>\n Furbank recently made the England 15 shirt his own<\/a> after ousting Freddie Steward from the position, but has since suffered a series of injuries, which have left him out of contention. The Stoop is a brilliant place to play \u2013 it always has a great atmosphere,\u201d said Furbank ahead of his move.<\/p>\n \u201cSecondly, I think the group of lads here are an incredibly talented bunch, you look at the individuals and the collective \u2013 it\u2019s a group you want to be a part of.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd thirdly, speaking to Gilly (Jason Gilmore)<\/a>, we have a very similar philosophy and outlook on how we want to play rugby. There is a lot here that is exciting for me.<\/p>\n \u201cI have been at Saints since I was 14-15 years old, so it will be a different challenge, but I am keen to step out of my comfort zone. I am hoping playing with a new group and under new coaching staff is going to be refreshing and take my game to a new level.\u201d<\/p>\n
