The FIA has announced that no decisions were made during the first of the scheduled meetings with the F1 technical directors of all teams and power unit manufacturers, held on Thursday. <\/p>\n

According to the Federation\u2019s statement, \u201cthere was constructive dialogue on difficult topics, especially when considering the competitive nature of the stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was very much in line with what team principals like McLaren\u2019s Andrea Stella or Haas\u2019 Ayao Komatsu had repeatedly said, praising the way \u201ceveryone is looking at what\u2019s best for the sport without considering the implications on its own competitiveness,\u201d as the Japanese engineer said after the end of the Japanese Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

In its brief statement the FIA explained that the Thursday meeting \u201ccovered a raft of topics as part of the natural evolution of the 2026 Formula 1 Technical and Sporting Regulations,\u201d adding that \u201cit was generally agreed that although the events to date have provided exciting racing, there was a commitment to making tweaks to some aspects of the regulations in the area of energy management.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sport\u2019s regulator then reminded everyone that \u201cit was agreed earlier in the year by all parties that this sequence of meetings would take place following the first three races of the 2026 Formula 1 season,\u201d explaining that \u201cthe scheduling was timed so that sufficient technical data could be gathered in advance of any discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n

As everyone returned home with a lot of suggestions to consider, three other meetings have been scheduled for the next 10 days, at the end of which, hopefully, new measures will be agreed and, after being voted on by the World Motor Sport Council, will be implemented.<\/p>\n

Next week there will be two separate meetings on Wednesday and Thursday, the FIA stating that \u201cthere is a Sporting Regulations meeting on 15 April during which any changes in Section B (where the Sporting Regulations now fall into) that are required to facilitate the technical changes will be discussed,\u201d adding that \u201cthe next technical session will be on 16 April during which points discussed today will be followed up and new topics will be given exposure.\u201d<\/p>\n

The results of those meetings will then be put together as a full proposal for the team principals, the FIA announcing that \u201ca high-level meeting with representation from all stakeholders is scheduled for 20 April, where it is anticipated that preferred options jointly proposed by the technical teams will be considered and a consensus sought on the way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Making it clear that the teams and the manufacturers are at least as responsible as the Federation for the current regulations, the regulator\u2019s statement added that \u201cthe 2026 regulations were developed and agreed in close partnership with teams, OEMs, Power Unit Manufacturers, the commercial rights holder and the FIA all at the table. It is in this spirit of collaboration that potential changes are being discussed.\u201d<\/p>\n
