Former opposition leader Peter Dutton has been appointed to the board of the Queensland Investment Corporation by the state’s LNP government.<\/p>\n

Mr Dutton has kept a low profile since leading the Coalition to defeat at the 2025 federal election, also losing his seat of Dickson.<\/p>\n

Mr Dutton’s appointment was announced on Friday alongside that of former Queensland Labor assistant minister Michael Choi.<\/p>\n

The state government said the appointments were designed to “help drive investment in key growth opportunities for Queensland in defence industries and critical minerals”.<\/p>\n

Queensland Investment Corporation is Queensland’s state-owned investment manager with more than $135 billion in assets under management.<\/p>\n

Queensland Treasurer David Janetski said Mr Dutton would provide strategic advice on accelerating development through the flagship Sovereign Industry Development Fund.<\/p>\n

“These appointments will bring world-class expertise to the Queensland Investment Corporation, strengthening its ability to driving investment in our state, helping grow our economy to benefit all Queenslanders,” Mr Janetzki said.<\/p>\n

“Queensland is open for business, and we are equipping our state-owned investment manager to secure opportunities within Australia and abroad.”<\/p>\n

When asked if he would make a return to politics, at last year’s LNP state conference in Brisbane,<\/a> Mr Dutton said: “No, mate, I’m too old for that.”<\/p>\n

The Queensland Investment Corporation’s annual financial statements and directors report for the 2025 financial year shows directors earned $90,000 a year, as well as additional income for being on board committees and subsidiary boards, plus superannuation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Queensland shadow treasurer Shannon Fentiman has criticised the LNP’s decision to appoint Mr Dutton to the board.<\/p>\n

“David Crisafulli\u2019s jobs for mates appointments has gone from sneaky to blatant abuse of taxpayer money,” she said.<\/p>\n
