McDonald\u2019s has quietly discontinued a popular menu item, leaving fans of the dessert shocked and \u201cheartbroken\u201d.<\/p>\n

Chocolate soft serve is no more. The supposed partner-in-crime to the widely popular vanilla has been taken off the menu after failing to live up to expectations.<\/p>\n

Excitement was high in 2021 when the flavour was trialled at select stores around the country. It then became more readily available nationwide in 2023, with the promise of it being a permanent fixture going forward.<\/p>\n

The internet went into a frenzy when McDonald\u2019s first released the new ice-cream flavour, with avid fans rushing to stores to get their hands on the hit new product.<\/p>\n

However, it seems that excitement was short-lived as demand fell away and punters failed to return to the golden arches for another helping.<\/p>\n

Some stores provided a mash-up of the two flavours with a vanilla, chocolate twist – but that proved hard to come by.<\/p>\n

While many would be quick to point out that finding a Macca\u2019s with a working ice-cream machine is a challenge in itself, the ones that do work will be back to just the original vanilla flavour.<\/p>\n

Disappointed fans of the alternate ice-cream flavour have shared their reactions on social media.<\/p>\n

One keen chocolate lover in the comments dubbed it the \u201cworst decision ever made\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cNO IT WAS MY FAVOURITE,\u201d another wrote with passion.<\/p>\n

\u201ci\u2019m actually heartbroken \u2639\ufe0fi loved the chocolate soft serve \u2639\ufe0f\u2639\ufe0f\u2639\ufe0f,\u201d a third commented.<\/p>\n

Not everyone is sad to see chocolate go, though, with some, including employees, glad to see the chocolate crumble.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was destroying our soft serve machine. Chocolate is thicker than vanilla ice cream. Our machine would constantly drip,\u201d one Macca\u2019s employee said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank the lord now the machine won\u2019t explode all over me every time I go to make a cone,\u201d another worker wrote.<\/p>\n
