A UK charity Prince Harry co-founded is now suing him for defamation, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale in 2006 in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana, to help young people living with HIV and AIDS in southern Africa.<\/p>\n

But the 41-year-old quit as patron of the organisation last year after he said the relationship with the chair and trustees “broke down beyond repair creating an untenable situation”.<\/p>\n

The charity became the centre of a boardroom dispute last March when its chair, Sophie Chandauka, publicly accused Prince Harry of “bullying”.<\/a><\/p>\n

Days earlier, Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho had announced they were resigning from the charity they established after the trustees quit when Ms Chandauka refused their demand to step down.<\/p>\n

After a months-long inquiry, the UK-based Charity Commission “found no evidence of widespread or systemic bullying or harassment, including misogyny or misogynoir at the charity”.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry resigns from charity dispute<\/a><\/p>\n

The prince says the trustees asked the chair to step down but she refused and sued the charity. She says her lawsuit has merit and calls herself a whistleblower against “abuse of power” and “misogynoir”.<\/p>\n

It “criticised all parties to the dispute for allowing it to play out publicly”, saying it had “severely impacted the charity’s reputation”, issuing the charity with a plan to “address governance weaknesses”.<\/p>\n

Now, Sentebale has lodged a defamation claim against Prince Harry in London’s High Court.<\/p>\n

According to court records, Sentebale is suing Harry and one of his close friends Mark Dyer, who was also a trustee of the charity.<\/p>\n

There were no details as to what the case involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Neither Harry’s spokesperson nor the charity immediately responded to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

The prince kept only a handful of his private patronages, including with Sentebale, after his dramatic split with the royal family in 2020 when he left the UK to live in North America with his wife and children.<\/p>\n
