Philadelphia, PA – Former La Salle University\u00a0basketball player\u00a0John “Jackie”\u00a0Moore\u00a0passed away\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday, April 9,\u00a0at the age of 93.\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Moore helped the La Salle men’s basketball team to the 1952 NIT Championship after averaging 9.2 points per game and 12.6 rebounds per game. The following season, he averaged 11.3 ppg. and 11.6\u00a0rpg. to help the Explorers back to the NIT. His 12.1\u00a0rpg. average is second in program history behind Tom Gola. La Salle posted a 50-10 record during his two seasons on the court.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was the first\u00a0Black\u00a0men’s basketball player at La Salle.\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Moore went on to play in the NBA with the Syracuse Nationals,\u00a0Milwaukee Hawks, and Philadelphia Warriors, becoming\u00a0the first Black player to appear in a game in\u00a0Warriors\u00a0history\u00a0on February 15, 1955. He helped Philadelphia win the 1956 NBA title.\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
A Philadelphia native, he is a member of the La Salle Hall of Athletes and\u00a0Overbrook High School\u00a0Hall of Fame.\u00a0\u00a0
