The company\u2019s products enable satellites to process data directly in orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Contentlockr<\/p>\n<p>Ghent-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgx.space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">EDGX<\/a>, a company that claims to be building the world\u2019s fastest edge computer for satellites, has closed a \u20ac2.3M seed funding round.<\/p>\n<p>The round was co-led by Antwerp\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imecistartfuturefund.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">imec.istart future fund<\/a> and the Flanders Future Tech Fund, managed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmv.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">PMV<\/a>. The round also saw continued participation from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imecistart.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">imec.istart<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will be used to develop onboard AI technology for satellite missions.<\/p>\n<p>EDGX mentions in a LinkedIn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/edgx-space_spacetech-artificialintelligence-edgecomputing-activity-7360443816954273792-XfpO\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAAgCTT4BGsaJydEW1W557zTc3vMca79i5HQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">post<\/a> that, \u201cThis investment accelerates the commercialisation of our flagship EDGX Sterna Computer, a high-performance AI-capable computer that processes data directly in orbit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AI edge computing for satellites<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2023 by Nick Destrycker and Wouter Benoot, EDGX develops <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconcanals.com\/news\/startups\/ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AI<\/a>-capable edge computing solutions for satellites to enable in-orbit data processing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wouter Benoot, co-founder &amp; CTO, mentions, \u201cSince graduation, my ultimate goal has been to create something that goes into orbit. Initially, that seemed like a daunting task. But then came EDGX, a team of like-minded engineers who share those aspirations. With them, I\u2019m confident we can reach new heights, and the unknown no longer seems so daunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EDGX\u2019s products are the EDGX Sterna Computer and the EDGX SpaceFeather Software.<\/p>\n<p>The Sterna Computer is designed for compatibility with multiple launch vehicles, including Falcon 9, Ariane 6, and Vega-C. It has undergone qualification testing that included vibration and sine burst tests, thermal-vacuum cycles, and radiation exposure with 200 MeV protons. The system has demonstrated tolerance to a Total Ionising Dose beyond 30 krad(Si) and a destructive LET threshold of 38 MeV\u22c5cm\u00b2\/mg.<\/p>\n<p>The SpaceFeather Software ecosystem supports Sterna\u2019s operation. It includes a space-hardened Linux operating system built with Yocto, a real-time supervisor for system monitoring and control, an application framework for containerised in-orbit software updates, and radiation shielding software implementing hierarchical fault detection, isolation, and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Together, Sterna and SpaceFeather allow satellites to process data in orbit, manage software remotely, and maintain operational continuity in challenging space conditions.<\/p>\n<p>EDGX has signed a \u20ac1.1M multi-unit commercial agreement with a satellite operator and secured multiple contracts with government and institutional customers.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also scheduled an in-orbit demonstration on the SpaceX Falcon 9 for February 2026 and has confirmed two additional missions planned for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Destrycker, co-founder &amp; CEO, says, \u201cDriving a startup like EDGX, where we\u2019re pioneering completely new technology for space and create a business out of it, is what fuels my passion.
