\u201cI was just a bit disappointed with not leaving enough room really. I\u2019m all for hard racing and leaning on each other, but he did it at the end of the first stint, and then he just drove into my left rear at Turn 5 and it broke my damper.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust kinda stupid. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe pass is already done \u2013 I don\u2019t really know why he did it. It is what it is. Probably a question for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll move on, and make the car a bit faster, and hopefully we don\u2019t have to race the B-grade drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commentator James Courtney described Waters\u2019 criticism as \u201cfighting words\u201d as tempers flared.<\/p>\n
In his own take on the contact, Heimgartner shrugged off the run-in and post-race confrontation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t have any problem with it, we were just debriefing and he came in a bit upset which I understand. He got taken out, but it wasn\u2019t from me,\u201d he told Fox Motorsport.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was just saying something about something, I don\u2019t know, but a bit rich coming from him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s not our problem at the moment, I thought it was some good racing. Everyone races hard, and there was some contact, but with these wheels and different things it\u2019s easy to snap dampers.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur problem is our car speed, so that\u2019s what we\u2019ve got to focus on, and just ignore all the other stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brodie Kostecki went on to take the race win ahead of Will Brown who had to fight tooth and nail to hold off Ryan Wood.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought, \u2018Nah he\u2019s not going to get past, I\u2019m going to make it as hard as I can for him,\u2018\u201c Brown said post-race.<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew that if he got to my inside I was done, I had no rear left.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was making sure he went to my outside and making sure he couldn\u2019t go around the outside in a very nice way. I think I was polite about it wasn\u2019t I?\u201d<\/p>\n
Wood would later break through for an emotional win in New Zealand in the second race on Saturday \u2013 but not without its own drama.<\/p>\n
The Kiwi pole sitter was leading the race when he was inadvertently undercut by his teammate Chaz Mostert after second stop.<\/p>\n
Wood was left fuming over team radio as Mostert emerged in a surprise lead, saying: \u201cAre you serious?\u201d<\/p>\n
In response, engineer Richard Harris replied: \u201cWe\u2019re not happy about it either.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cClearly Ryan Wood very upset coming out behind his teammate,\u201d Garth Tander said on the broadcast.<\/p>\n
WTWGR CEO Bruce Stewart explained the team confusion on Fox Motorsport, stating it was \u201cprobably not ideal\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think we expected it (Wood to come out behind Mostert) \u2026 I think everyone had a bit of a holy hell moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
But Mostert would later move aside with Wood\u2019s pace, heard saying he would \u201cprotect the win\u201d for his teammate with just eight laps to go.<\/p>\n
Wood became the first-ever Toyota winner, and now provisionally leads the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy standings heading into the four-race event at Christchurch next weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so incredibly proud of our team and what we\u2019ve done with this beautiful car,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo win in our third round is pretty special.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is incredible. I can\u2019t believe it.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad was probably bawling his eyes out \u2013 my mum\u2019s a little bit tougher (smiles).\u201d<\/p>\n
Addressing the team conflict post race, Wood admitted he felt \u201clike a bit of an idiot now\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt like we\u2019d worked so hard to keep track position \u2026 and when you see your teammate you\u2019re like ohhhh!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry to my crew and everyone in my team for listening to my whingeing.\u201d<\/p>\n
